Hey all!

I'm trying to add a sound to coalition/country/group/all and it's not working. In the mission editor, when you go to open the browser to find the sound file, nothing happens.

I've done a repair, reset, no joy.

Using the latest Open Beta, version 2.5.2.19682

Any ideas?

I have my selfcreated soundfiles here:

user>"name">saved games>DCS>missions

All files are Wavesound-typ.

This works fine for me.

What goes up, must come down !

OK, here is something I found.... The problem started after I tried to load CTLD and add a the beaconsilent.ogg and beacon.ogg sounds to the mission. After I did that, the add sound thing didn't work.

Log files showed this:

2018-07-21 21:01:45.910 ERROR SOUND: sf_open_virtual(C:\Users\C\Saved Games\DCS\Missions\Iran\beaconsilent.ogg) failed: File contains data in an unknown format.

So, I deleted the references to loading the beacon sounds from the mission, then erased them from the location they were in.

Now the add sound works.

Tried to load them again > same issue. Deleted them, now it works.

Tried making my own sounds called beacon.ogg and beaconsilent.ogg and load them > same problem.

Not sure what's going on, but my DCS doesn't seem to like those file names.

Not sure what's going on, but my DCS doesn't seem to like those file names.

I'm also using 2.5.2 open beta and I'm able to add and play my own ogg sound files without issues.

The log that you posted does seem to indicate that DCS can't read those ogg files that are giving you trouble.

I'm thinking that perhaps you have some kind of format compatibility issues going on.

Which program are you using to create those ogg files?

Are you sure that those ogg files aren't corrupted or just using a kind of ogg format that DCS doesn't admit?

I still use my beloved CoolEdit Pro 2.1 for audio recording/editing (with several extra plugins, including an ogg one). All the ogg files that I created using this program work fine in DCS.

Why don't you put those nasty ogg files in a compressed zip and then post it here?

We can take a look and test them, see if we can reproduce the issue.

Hey Hardcard!

I'm away from my machine for the next while, but the sounds I tried to load were from here: https://github.com/ciribob/DCS-CTLD?files=1

It was the beacon.ogg and beaconsilent.ogg files that caused the issues.

After I deleted references to the two audio files above, the add sound returned to functioning as normal.

I then tried to create new sounds with the same file names as above, tried to load them into the mission and the same thing happened.

I'm using audacity to create my new sound files.

Will be back to the home computer tomorrow or the next day to send specifics.

Testing done.

beaconsilent.ogg is just 1 minute of silence, you should be able to create audio files like this one on your own without problems, no need to download it.

I've been able to open and play beacon.ogg without issues too, both in CoolEdit and DCS 2.5.2 open beta, which means that the problem must be somewhere in your system.

When you get back home, post your mission file here so we can take a look.

Btw, I recently had to repair my Windows 10 installation, wipe my SSD, reflash its firmware, create a brand new NTFS partition and reinstall DCS in it... just to get rid of some nasty DCS file corruption issues which caused a lot of trouble.

I'm not saying you'll have to do the same, but... ;)

Haha holy crap CoolEdit...haven't heard that name since the Win98 days.

@Sedlo we use CTLD for every single mission at my VFS, there is definitely no issue with those particular files. Tried using a different country/coalition just for s&g? Created a brand new trigger or cloned an existing one? Have you edited CTLD.lua at all and perhaps created an error?

I have no problems with .wav or .ogg files on my end and I can set up CTLD for you if you're still having issues for some reason. I assume this is for Herc down?

Hey, Fee! Yes, it's for the Herc Down mission. I just tried to add the two sounds again, same freeze issue. I'm not sure what is going on. I've tried adding them to Blue, Red, different countries, etc... Not sure what's going on.

Can you try to add the two sounds to the mission and let me know what you get?

I'm using DCS 2.5.2 open beta...

The Hercules Down mission just fails to appear when I look for it in the "Missions" folder (where I put it). I can see and open the rest of my missions, though (which are located in the very same folder)...

Looks like Hercules Down isn't compatible with 2.5.2 open beta, can you confirm this?

thanks Feefifofum i will try this

I have zero issues adding sound files. Sedlo sent me his .miz and I was able to add the sounds.

Not sure what's going on, but try repairing your copy of DCS. Failing that, try deleting the "MissionEditor" folder from your saved games directory.

I'm going to have to try this ..thanks buddy!

Old thread, but I started having the same issue. It manifests as a crash-to-desktop when some sound files are called. I also think it is related to CTLD beaconsilent.ogg

Any solutions?
