waistcat Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Hi all, Has anyone else experienced not having the localisers visible when AWLS is selected? I have been diligently learning the aircraft's systems and creating handling training missions to improve my piloting skills. (I haven't fired a shot in anger yet) and following a viewing of Red Kites AWLS tutorial I built a training mission with low viz to test my abilities. When approaching Kobuleti (07) and after selecting the AWLS system and channel 1 on the UFC I don't get any localiser symbology other than the 4 vertical markers on the HUD that appear when AWLS is active. I continue to descend at 3.0 degrees on the glide slope on the runway center line and the localiser flashes on and off a couple of times when directly over the runway. Anyone else had this or have I missed one crucial button press? I watched Red kites tutorial a couple of times and as as can tell I haven't missed anything. UFC 1. Press AWLS 2. Select channel 1 (Kobuleti) 3. Press enter. 4. Turn AWLS on via on/off button DDI 5. Ensure AWLS is boxed (HUD to Nav mode? Not essential as far as I can tell) Any help appreciated Thanks WC AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D @ Nvidia 4090 64gigs of RAM--TH Warthog--Crosswinds rudder--HP Reverb G2--Dedicated Sim room.

Ramsay Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 Has anyone else experienced not having the localisers visible when AWLS is selected? I can confirm there is an AV-8B AWLS HUD issue in DCS 2.5.2.19682 Tested at Kobuleti, RWY 07, AWLS CH01, Zero wind L-39ZA ADF detected the Outer and Inner NDB's for RWY 07 and an A-10C picked up the ILS localizer, Glide Slope and Markers when tested, so the problem looks module specific. Note: The AV-8B AWLS HUD behaviour has changed since I tested the AV-8B in .19273 i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
Shadow_1stVFW Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 I can confirm. I just tested at Senaki, RW 09. (Track file) I did notice, however, the needles are present. They just seem to only be visible for fractions of a second and disappear again. See track file for further. waistcat Posted July 31, 2018 Author Posted July 31, 2018 Thanks for testing fellas. I ran a test at Nellis and same issue there too. AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D @ Nvidia 4090 64gigs of RAM--TH Warthog--Crosswinds rudder--HP Reverb G2--Dedicated Sim room.

Shadow_1stVFW Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Is it possible to use the ALWS on the Tarawa. Ramsay Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Is it possible to use the ALWS on the Tarawa. Interesting question - not AFAIK. It's possible to activate a ICLS beacon on the Tarawa in the ME but at the moment the Harrier isn't compatible with ICLS. This paper suggests the Harrier uses the same ICLS as the Hornet, so the RL Harrier most likely has the same limitations with regards to using civilian ILS ? TEST AIRCRAFT The AN/SPN-41A system aboard amphibious assault ships is intended for use with the AV-8B Harrier II V/STOL aircraft. This type of aircraft was not available for this evaluation so a NAWCAD F/A-18A Hornet aircraft was used. The F/A-18A was deemed a suitable substitute, since landing on the ship was not a requirement for the tests and the ICLS components in the F/A-18A and AV-8B are identical. The ICLS guidance displays and information presentation in the F/A-18A cockpit are also very similar to the AV-8B. http://trace.tennessee.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=3528&context=utk_gradthes i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440

I have noticed the AWLS system isn't quiet flushed out yet. Namely CH18 is supposed to work and doesn't (nellis I think) and you cannot yet edit the information stored in there. Though I wonder if that is a dcs limitation that hasn't been worked out yet. Regardless, AWLS/ICLS to the new Tarawa is an exciting proposal. I only hope ED in the future gives the carriers the logic to turn into the wind and sail at the right speeds on command in the future. Okay. Enough rambling.
