When is something going to be done about text on 4K displays?

I know it's been discussed before, but when is something going to be done about text on screen in 4K resolution?

Text on ctrl-pause info is almost unreadable, and training mission instructions have to be looked at very hard (and then usually disappear before you get a chance to read them!) and in cockpit menus for ATC, etc. are very difficult to read.

Surely, it is a fairly trivial thing to fix, by scaling the text to resolution. Possible to edit a labels file somewhere?

Thanks for that. Looks interesting. I’ll give it a go later. I hope it doesn’t screw up text in VR as that works nicely.

Can't confirm, as I'm non-VR user! It helps with my 1440p screen, though.

Works pretty well. In 4K, I would say the text is too large now! Gone to the other extreme. In VR, something has changed but I can't tell exactly what!

I'd poke HiJack via PM - If he edited this old mod to make it 2.5-compatible, I guess he knows best how to tinker with it.

OK, I was wrong about there being no effect on VR. Both the mods shift the text almost to the centre of the display, so I have to disable them when in VR, and re-enable them when I go into 2D again.

Yeah Scale GUI works for size but it’s blurry since it’s not native 4K and looks rather terrible.

 

DCS is the only game I have without a good 4K GUI. It needs one... :cry:

Yes, sorry folks I have had a relaxing summer. Will have a look at this asap as I use it myself as well.

I found one typing error in the 1440 enlargement and have corrected this and updated the file. Download again from https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3479225&postcount=120

 

I also checked if there is some changes in any of the original files and there is not. Should work in 2.5.2 :)

Checked the other files for the same typing error, non found.

Please report any strange behaviour with chat text after updating.

 

EDIT: Tested 1440p enlarger on 104th and it works perfectly now.

(only the text you are writing is still in smaller font)

HiJack, are you able to add the ability to modify labels as well into your mod? They are also way too small in 4K. Or, do you know what to modify and let us know?

I'm not that in to labels but I believe there are several examples of label types etc. here on the forum so use search and browse though all the results.

Generally speaking, I'd really like to see ED start fully supporting 4K. My guess would be that all of their testing/creating is done at 1080p and not 4K. Though I could definitely be wrong. If they worked in 4k as well, they'd probably squash more of the visibility bugs, and sooner.

I realised that is just a question of editing line 43 in the Labels.lua file, so everything is all good. Thanks.
