tankaviator
I'm just starting to work on using the tacan in the Hornet and am not seeing what all of the videos and tutorials say I should. I setup my carrier in the mission editor, deleted the tacan activate action, then added tacan on 74X and ICLS as 2. I then started the flight, clicked the tacan button on the ufc, pressed on until it says ON, and pressed clear, 74, enter. I did the same with the ILS system. After this I see the bearing and station id, but there is no distance and the time to go stays at 0. Also the station symbol doesn't show up since it has no distance data to it. I toggled the ILS in the HSI and there were no changes to any displays. Any thoughts? Is anyone else seeing this? mwd2
Are you standing on the carrier? Maybe a trk File would help. When you say: I toggled the ILS in the HSI Are you selecting (Pressing) the TACAN and or ILS on the DDI screen and it becomes boxed to show that it's selected. Flamin_Squirrel
Make sure you have "T/R" selected on the UFC. If it's "RCV", you'll only get bearing.
Raven (Elysian Angel)
Is anyone else seeing this? In NTTR Through-the-Inferno, yes I always had issues with TACAN and tankers, independent of the module. In all other scenarios, it's been working just fine for me and my squadron. Oh, that's a good tip... ty..shouldn't it be T/R by default...some of the options on this platform, whether the real F18 works this way or not, have an annoying habit of resetting themselves to the default, when it is clear the setting you last had is more conducive to handy operation...like, for instance, how the TDC cursor bars snap back to its park position instead of staying in the same area of the screen you last had it... Flamin_Squirrel
T/R is default, but worth checking if you have issues.
tankaviator
I have all of those set. Here are a few pics of the mission (with tacan/ils settings), one with tacan selected and bearing info in hsi with t/r selected, and one with the ils system. I'm not getting range to the tacan even though I am in a perfect position to pick it up. I'm not seeing anything change when I select ils. David OC
Not sure without the track or mission file? Try one of Wags Case III missions and see if they work for you and compare the setup to your missions. These one's here are also good by =4c=Nikola with IRL radio calls added. mwd2
You need to attach the TACAN station to the carrier! Under Advanced WP Action / Perform Command / Activate TACAN you have the parameter: CHANNEL MODE CHANNEL CALLSIGN UNIT and on UNIT you have NOTHING, this should be the carrier UNIT NAME. Same for ICLS! Emmy
Having the Same Issues Carrier Tacan gives range and bearing Tanker gives only bearing Cheers Evilfisher Try swapping from X to Y band or vice versa... At least this usually fixes the issue in the A-10C vis a vis the KC-135. strikers_blade
My apology for the necroposting but my question is directly link to this; Are the Tacan X and Tacan Y supposed to work differently? I know when I set to a X Tacan, I get the HDG, DIST and TIME in my HSI. If I set to a Y Tacan, I only get the HDG. Example; I got a KC-135 Tanker set to 24Y. I turn my TCN ON. I set my F/A-18 TCN to 24Y. I set to A/A. If I look in my HSI and box the TCN, I get the HDG in the top left corner. If I change my TCN to 24X, I then get the HDG, DIST and Time. Now keep in mind, the mission editor set the tanker TCN to 24Y so I am not even sure why 24X would even work at all. Any of you have ideas? hlfritz
I can confirm the same with X vs. Y channel for tankers. When set to a Y channel, we get no distance information. Multiple modules: F/A-18, Mirage 2000, AV-8B NA. Is Y channel no distance a confirmed issue? EDIT: sorry all - see here (confirmed and reported): https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=251873&page=2 Edited June 3, 2020 by hlfritz
