Lockon Operation Red Flag/Combined Air Exercise

Recommended Posts

It would be unfair of the 169th to commit themselves to this even though I'm sure it would be loads of fun. We have other commitments and would not be able to offer our full attention to mission planning and practice.

We hope that ORF is a great success.

Hey Dante, where have you been hiding

i have moved house.

i ride a motorcycle, my computer couldnt fit in my panniers

mig 29 g/ is probably the most under used planes in l/o along side the 29a then 25

on a personal level, not that i am able to partake at this time anyway. but for me, i am happiest and enjoy myself most when flying a su-33, i can fly anything, but for me if i got stuck flying a f-15, i wont enjoy it as much if at all.

in a scenario like this, i enjoy the challenge set forth, and if flying a 29a/g was tacticly the right thing to do, then i would do it and enjoy it and it would be even sweeter if i succeeded..

well as this is the 1st "trial" mission I'm up for w/e, but as many have already stated, they are not flying the planes they would normally enjoy flying (I have flown Mig/Su since the game first came out, but am slotted as a ground pounder which I never do online because my sqd is blue side and only get 15's), and for the sake of other enjoyable missions in the future it would be nice to give both sides the option to fly what they like. No matter what you do this will not be a realistic encounter because the majority of the participants aren't trained in real military strategies or tactics so you are left with trying to make it fun and as even as possible.....or it will not last more than once or twice.

They only true imbalance is A-10 for US only and 33 for RU only, everything else can be played on both sides with any concievable story to go along with it.

is this ok?

There could be a modman compatible Red Flag mod that would make all planes flyable for either coalition, similar to the LomacLeague mod.

Your request is not falling on deaf ears. I am aware that many people want to fly specific aircraft.... I get that. I chose to honor requests for the first mission to make it NATO vs Warsaw. I am willing to change it around for future missions. The thing I like about allowing all a/c on both sides is the ability to work with different squadrons. Please be patient with this first mission and I believe it will turnout a success.

Nice looking mission.

I would suggest that the flight leads get their mission plans done, and then waypoints submitted to Fudd so that he can add them to mission? But they shouldnt be posted publicly.

I like that idea alot!

I will post the mission objectives and bases tomorrow, along with a general briefing of the area.

If the mission leaders will highlight on the map where they want the waypoints for their flights to go then I can create them without both sides knowing the "flight plans." I would encourage squadrons to work together to come up with an appropriate battle strategy.

Congratulations to all of you on this tremendous effort! I am looking forward to the after action reports and screenies of the Red Flag Operations. This is an excellent idea and really shows the best side of of this community.

Good luck to all of you, have a freaking blast and I hope to be there with you all next time!

@ Fudd:

Nice work with the mission design and recon screenies.

Though looking at all the units and thinking about the envisioned 44 clients makes me fear this to be a monster lagger, particularly because of the many radar sweeping SAMs and ships.

I hope I will be proven wrong.

@ Goya:

Why build an extra Red Flag Mod when the LL Mod is still there, tested, proven, rocksolid. I used it as patch status for all LLTM2007 participants to enable even conditions for drawn team-vs.-team missions and it worked flawlessly.

@ Dante:

Good to see you mate! Is it right that www.lomacleague.com is down? How comes? I had a hard time reproducing LL single ladder gunzo rules from memory for the LLTM2007 gunzo tournament...:book:

If you want the mod still to be available to the community, we have it in our download section. If you want us to remove it, advise. But it would be a shame, it´s almost the only mod I use and by far the most practical one for many occasions.

@ll BlueFOR pilots:

Laud installed a team briefing/discussion sub-forum in our squad-forum.

Check

http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/forum/index.php

all the way down at the bottom.

Be advised that only BlueFOR pilots have access to this part of the forum. So feel free to discuss even tactical stuff.

If someone is part of BlueFOR for ORF Mission 1 and cannot read and write there, mail to laud@virtual-jabog32.de

or contact Laud via PM for access granting.

Operation Red Flag, Mission 1: The Battle for Kerch.

1400 Zulu 26 May 2007

Tensions have reached a breaking point as US and German forces, aided by Georgian Supply ships, have moved towards the Crimean city of Kerch. US Forces have set up artillery to prevent ships moving through the straits. These positions are heavily guarded by SAM’s to include Patriot and Hawk batteries and highly mobile Roland and Avenger air defense systems

In response to the NATO build up forces and the stronghold on the straits of Kerch, Russian forces have begun moving supplies and armor into the region. Russian supply ships have been photographed moving into the straits to support the build-up of forces. Convoys of trucks and equipment along with armor and Tunguska and Strela air defense systems have been seen moving towards the area.

BlueFor Objectives:

Primary: Fighters: Establish air superiority to allow strike aircraft to complete the mission.

Strike: Sink all supply ships moving into the Kerch Straits.

Secondary: Strike: Destroy convoys moving into the region.

Destroy all Armor and ADS near the straits.

RedFor Objectives:

Primary: Fighters: Shoot down any NATO aircraft that flies east of Kirovskoe.

Strike: Destroy enemy artillery positions.

Secondary: Fighters: Escort strike aircraft enroute to secondary objective.

Strike Destroy all SAM sites in the Crimean peninsula.

Destroy Georgian Supply Ships near the town of Feodosija.

Airbases:

BlueFor: Strike Aircraft will be located at Gvardjskoe with a FARP at Kirovskoe. Fighter Aircraft will be located at Simferopol. Runway 19L/01R is for outbound traffic only.

RedFor: Strike Aircraft will be located at Krasnodar Center with a FARP at Krymsk. Fighter Aircraft will be located at Krasnodar Pashkovskij. Runway 23R/05L is for outbound traffic only.

ROE:

No ROE for this first mission. NATO movement into Kerch is considered a hostile action.

Basic Rules:

NO RESPAWN

THE BASES LISTED ARE THE ONLY BASES YOU CAN LAND AT AND REFUEL/REARM. The fighters WILL NOT REARM/REFUEL at the FARP's (Krymsk and Kirovskoe) only the strike aircraft can do this. If you land at a base that is not considered hostile than you must leave the mission, but it will not be considered a loss. If you land behind enemy lines it is considered a loss and you must leave the mission. (Kerch is behind enemy lines for both sides, anything east of Kirovskoe is enemy lines for BlueFor. Anything west of Anapa is enemy lines for RedFor.)

VULCHING IS ALLOWED (the likelihood that you will be successful is small)

NO MODDED LOADOUTS (Includes R-77 on the outermost pylon on the 29… etc etc, u know what’s modded and what isn’t)

NO WHINING (I have a rack set up… if you whine you’ll get placed in the rack and flogged repeatedly)

Squad Leaders:

I am tasking each of you to uphold these rules for all members of your squadron. In order for this to be successful everyone must follow the rules without complaining. I will be around on Saturday watching the mission, but I expect everyone to play fairly without my intervention. That being said, I have no doubt that everyone will uphold the rules and play fairly. This exercise is including some of the most professional members of the community. I salute you all and look forward to seeing you in the skies.

Should BLUE have long range SAMs close to the mid-point/channel? - may be a bit tight for our enemies :)

Just a suggestion : Perhaps we should make SAM concentration a bit lower close to the channel?

Also let's all discuss the possibility of having "Mission 2" in the future based on the outcome of "Mission 1"(this one)!

S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'

The extra SAM presence in the region is due to eight Su-25t's that will be on RedFor.

I've flown the mission a couple of times and tweaked it based on how hard it was for me. (I'm no expert at the 25t btw).

@ Woody: As far as lag goes, I would like to test it before "game day." There is nothing I hate more than lag, so if you have some suggestions please PM me!

@ PoleCat and ReO, thanks for the kind words, S!

As Mission1 is very much of a tryout we shouldn't make anything depend on it's outcome. Now, even if we're not done with this one I (and some of my squad mates) have a lot of good input to improve mission/intel-data-design. But we'll start with this afterwards.

For now I hope that soon all members of blue side show up in the jabog-forums to be granted access to the closed briefing forums. (you have to register and pn me to be able to even see this forum (and of course to read and post in there! ;) ))

One more point: 3 days from releasing mission data to fly the mission is quite close to coordinate in between 3 international squadrons. I wish from now on we would have had about 7-10 further days to meet and brief. Maybe for mission2...

This is a work in progress, so yes I would love to hear your suggestions. JaBog32 will also get the chance to design a mission... I am looking forward to seeing it.

I agree.... I didnt give myself enough time on this one. A week long buisness trip put the screws to me... RL sucks!

For future missions we will make the 7 day from general brief to gameday a requirement. Thanks for the input.

If I'm right Woody will send you a PM about some mission design issues (details about the points he already mentioned in his last post here).

Thanks for beeing open to inputs, thats great.

For me the time for preparation is one of the most important points for further missions. But also the information flow: Blue side shouldn't really know red sides tasks and vice versa. These could be send to one of the team members who forward it to their teammates. Information on enemy units shouldn't be as detailed as you gave them to us. Normally each side should only have a few intel maybe about sationary SAM (sattelite intel) but not all precise position of mobile units. This would bring some more RL-feeling into it in my opinion. The strike flights should have to look for their targets instead of knowing exactly where they are.

FYI,

I edited the briefing.

It has been decided that the Strike aircraft may use Krymsk (RedFor) and Kirovskoe(BlueFor) as FARP's.

This decision was made after actually flying that distance and taking in to account the likelihood of extending if there are hostile aircraft in the area.

FIGHTERS MAY NOT USE THESE FARPS!!!!
