lord-gore Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 I feel this could be good now we have the Yak, so ED, how about it?
MikeMikeJuliet Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 While I have nothing against civilian aircraft in DCS, I do not think the time is yet right to add a bunch these aircraft. The community seems very split on the issue and at this time DCS would need all available focus on other things at this time. Let the Yak-52 sink in. In multiplayer we would need a culture change from "lone wolf" and "airquake" play to a more complete approach to military aviation including regular flying with human ATC for example and the fact that not every Bogey is is a Bandit... A bush plane would be ridiculously fun to play around with, though. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet DCS Finland | SF squadron
lord-gore Posted August 8, 2018 Author Posted August 8, 2018 This is the problem with many folks these days, they are so set in their opinion that they just can not see that we have one of the best simulators around, but with the amount of dev's we have this perfect game they want is still at least 10 years away we need more people flying, this means we need to steal people from the other games, yes i know the title says combat, but if we can rope in FSX/X-plane fanatics the higher chance other dev's jump ship and the quicker we will get more and more aircraft the quicker the game get's complete.

DCS is never "complete". But it is true people have given interest to DCS with aerobatics and GA in mind now especially with the Yak. But while I'm okay with adding more civilians into the mix A) others aren't (which is fine) and B) to support general aviation DCS would need to focus on it for a while. Now I don't think we are in a situation where the change of focus is a good idea since DCS has been lacking in the combat department (which is one of the series' main points). I'm talking about game- and system mechanics... ATC, AI logic, damage model, missile performance, weather, systems for a human controlled air traffic, proper IFF and civilian transponders... And making big sweeping changes overnight will break a lot of things very quickly. We just got the 2.5 which is still in developement technically (and many of those developements are on the list I just laid out). ED is adressing some of the communitiess long time bugbears like the AA and SA missiles. I would let them advance at their own pace now that the pace has gotten up to speed. We see good changes monthly. I have no doubt that the Yak will in the end open doors and a way forward to a less isolated simulation environment along with the upcoming CE2 (even though there have been lot's of vocal critics). How long that way we end up I don't think anyone knows yet. Patience. DCS Finland | SF squadron

I'm one of those fanatics... :D I''ll fly civil planes in Prepar3d, at least until DCS won't be on whole earth graphic engine and we will have comparable realistic scenery. For quality of airplanes, I'm sure, we don't have to worry, beacuse we know that ED know how to make airplanes - that was proven... :D However, it would be nice to have nice multiplayer session in your preferable military jet, land with it. Switch to Skylane (quality comparable with A2A simulation products), fly to some sea resort and finsh a day with sailing a small yacht... Of course, all in same mission. :D :D :D Perhaps, some day...
bbrz Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 (edited) Wow, that's an exceptional ugly example! Btw, that's the way a real Super Cub looks like :) That said, with the Yak-52 you can at least do competition like aerobatics, with the PA-18 you can do nothing an it's even slower…. Jester986 Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Civi planes? Sure. Super Cub? Nope, too boring.
Hyperion35 Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 I think if they're going to do it, they should definitely do it with a proper DCS flavor. Set it up for smuggling missions, gunrunning and the like, evading radar and patrols, landing on grass fields.
SonofEil Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 I'm not really interested in the Yak at all, but seeing that pretty old Super got my blood moving. Yes please! i7 7700K @5.0, 1080Ti, 32GB DDR4, HMD Odyssey, TM WH, Crosswind Rudder...
Cik Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 if you're going to add unarmed stuff, why not add military unarmed stuff? C-130/5/17/etc would be way more interesting and useful.
Mars Exulte Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Anything that gets added, should imo have military implications. The Yak-52 is the basic flight trainer for the Russian military since forever. I don't like the Christen Eagle really, I'd rather see a basic trainer than it, a T-6 or T-34, T-28, anything really. I don't want a Airbus A380, but I would accept a C-130, E-3, etc etc. Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2

DmitriKozlowsky Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 One is reminded of the B-25 episode from Amazing Stories (from 1980's), with Kevin Kostner, as PIC of battle damaged B-25 forced to land without gear, and gunner trapped in belly turret.
DmitriKozlowsky Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 However DCS now has real 'looking' snow, so a ski equipped A/C would be interesting. Especially for WWII affecinadoes. Soviets were fond of putting ski landing gear on fighters during winter-time.
