PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller

Recommended Posts

I was number 355 on Firecat's list and just received my V2 a week ago. It was a long wait but I look forward to putting it to use. Tired of dropping my VR controllers or fiddle with keyboard presses or blind switch throws.

Hi,

I have a battery problem.

How to turn off FCU version 2?

Hey Fabio,

These PDFs are also attached to the invoice and on the PointCTRL Discord.
Hope that helps, and thanks for your patience.

Well sadly none knows for sure. This one-month hiatus caught everyone off guard. Fingers crossed for more positive news soon.

Yeah I really like this but going to budge for this Fall.  Funny thing about 10 months ago here I said I would assume last Oct.  Oh well.

Preordered via website on last december. Do you have an estimate for shipping?

Thanks.

Hey Nessuno,

Web orders started in November, so you should be up within a few weeks of completing Firecats list. We have about 60 more to go on that waiting list.
You can track shipping progress here https://discord.gg/YX9Hg977Yb

Hey all,

I will be sending out up to #490 invoices today.

I wanted to share this this user video from Aries. I really liked it because he very simply shows the deliberate hand interaction with cockpit controls, slowly and clearly. I know he just received his PointCTRL, so I was a bit surprised how quickly he appeared to become accustomed to it. A new device with a new DCS module is quite a test.

I queued up to some control interactions, but I watched the whole video in detail to look for things that could be addressed for a new user. These types of videos are really helpful to me for development, and others to get a real world idea of how PointCTRL functions.

Thanks again Aries, great stuff!

Miles

Hey Mower,
I am getting ready to send the invoices for the 500 group, and I did not see a pre-order form from you.
If you want to order now, just go to https://pointctrl.com/preorder-form/ and fill it out. If you want to wait, you can fil it out anytime in the future and you will keep your place in line. Just be sure to include your number from FireCats original list when you do.

Thanks for your patience, I know it's been a long wait.

Best,

We just hit 500 on FireCats list. 50 more and we start shipping of the website pre-order form that started at the end of November. I wish I could could you a good estimate, but something always seems to come up when I do.

The good news is my help is back from a month overseas, so shipping numbers should start increasing again.

Thanks,

Miles

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm in need of some Pointctrl assistance 😛

A few days ago I decided to recalibrate my Pointctrl, as it felt slightly off and I thought it needed some fine tuning. By now I regret that I did this, because somehow I made it a lot worse 😞

(in my defense, apparently some of the calibration methods seem to have changed a bit since I last did this, so my poor brain had to relearn how to do this)

Here's what I did:

  1. Step one "Set cursor targets"
  2. Step two "5-point calibration"
  3. Edge calibration
  4. Repeated all the above steps a few times, because:

My current problem:

After doing the 5-point calibration using my left FCU, the left FCU is calibrated spot on. My right FCU however, is not. When pointing my right finger to where the center of the right DDI (Hornet) feels to be and activate my FCU by clicking a button, my actual FCU cursor is about 3 "virtual" inches (±7.5cm) too far to the right.

When doing the 5-point calibration using my right FCU, everything happens exactly opposite. So my right FCU is then calibrated correctly, but my left FCU cursor appears too far left

I've been trying to get it right for quite some time now, but nothing seems to make it better. I really hope someone can "point" 😌 me in the right direction here.

Additionally, and I'm not sure if this is related, during "Set cursor targets" at some point the voice assist tells me I should place the vertical flashing cursors in such a way that both the upper and lower cursors are only just visible within my HMD. I noticed though, that if I do this, the upper cursor forms an issue when doing the 5-point calibration. During 5-point calibration when I need to align the upper cursor to where I'm virtually pointing my finger (so looking down quite extreme), the FCU is out of range from the HMS. Which basically forces me to slightly look up (not aligning the cursor to where I'm pointing) in order to have the HMS detect my FCU again.

To overcome this issue I redid the "Set cursor target" and moved the upper limit down by quite a bit.

I hope my above rambling makes sense to anyone... 🤞

Hey Sirrah, It been a while,
Do you have the latest firmware?

What headset do you have?

Its completely fine to move the upper cursor target down so you can easily put the cursor on your perceived finger location.
Don't bother with edge calibration. Its really not necessary, and it's easier and more practical to just to run through the 5 point again.

A few things to check

Check for IR interference on the right side, and that the FCU you are not using is down by your side or completely blocked. Point Control will use which ever IR source is closets to the center of the screen, even during 5 point calibration.

Be sure that the horizontal cursor targets are centered in your FOV with both eyes open.

Be sure to pick something in the center of the cockpit panel, and you can rest you hand on something if it helps.

While calibrating be sure the FCU is pointing directly forward, If you have the FCU angled it will cause the tracking issue you describe.

During normal, use you can position your hand however is the most comfortable, and you don't have to worry about holding the FCU straight.

Catch me on Discord, and we can do voice and screen share and run through a calibration if you want.

Good luck and let us know how you make out,

Miles

Hi Miles, nice to "see" you agian 😉

Having some time at hand now, I was able to directly check your suggestions and it seems that:

this was the solution!

Checking/fine tuning that they were centered definitely helped a lot at least. Thanks!

If unexpectedly the problem returns, I'll contact you on Discord for your convenience.

Glad it worked out.

I think you were one the very early adopters, It was strange, I responded a few days ago, but when I looked this morning it was not there. Fortunately for me when I went to respond again, my original response was sitting there ready to go.

Hope you and family are doing well

Hi Miles,

I placed a pre-order in January of this year.  I got an email confirming my pre-order at 8:48AM PST on January 22nd.  The email did not indicate what my number was in the queue.  Where can I find out what my number is and what do we think the eta is on my PointCtrl kit?

Thanks

Numbers were only for preorders done right here on this thread. Then the preorder website went live.
It´s difficult to say sir. Orders being serviced as of today are around August/September 2020.
