I would live to find switches like that that are illuminated. Provide back lighting for the UFC.

Looking at the data sheet for those nkk pushbuttons, they have illuminated varients of all their stuff. I'll see if I can find them.

I think these may work for having back-lit buttons, with some modifications done.

Damn..... those look like exactly what I would want.... but I dont know if I can justify the $400+ Canadian for the 20 of them...

If only I was substantially better at 3d modeling... I have an idea that I think would using mechanical keyboard switches. And there are enough custom keyboard companies out there that could probably make the switch covers to look like the real thing but I dont think I could redesign the model well enough to make it work.

Just finished my own UFC

Just want to thank Brun for laying all the great ground work for this project, just finished my own UFC, but I tried to make it just one piece to clamp to the desk when I fly DCS VR... So far works very well... Have a look...

I ordered the same square push buttons as linked, but ended up hating them. I searched around then and found these, https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/nkk-switches/kb15skw01-a/?qs=EIJ16CYJdOv2DMeOYQw7Ig%3D%3D&countrycode=US&currencycode=USD , and while they are considerably more expensive than the ones linked, they are also much higher quality, and way more satisfactory to press.

I’ve bought a couple to test/play around it and so far I love the feel of them compared to the cheap ones I’ve currently been using.

How do you actually wire them up though? They’ve got 5 pins of the back rather than the ‘normal’ two?

I just ordered a set of mechanical keyboard keys and key caps with the intention of seeing if they will fit (hopefully with only minor modifications.)

They should provide a satisfying tactile feel, were quite cheap (a set of 70 was less than $30) and if it works should be fairly easy to have custom key caps printed with the correct lettering.

I will keep you guys informed

How are people painting the lower UFC cover panel? I've just printed off the panel that has deeper text and I'd like to paint the text/circle white so they stand out more.

I'm thinking some diluted white water-based paint and using a super thin modelling brush to apply it. Any ideas?

Hi,

I re-designed it in Autodesk Inventor.

I want to use 16segment LED displays and DLG2416 modules from ebay.

As pushbuttons I want to use backlited ones from china.

Assembly is not tested. Now I am waiting for parts from china.

I will use arduino pro micro as UDB composite device with HID joystick for inputs and serial port for data output to displays

PCB will follow :)

The render looks nice! Also, if you want to embed a picture, it has to be JPG (maybe PNG works). And can use the following syntax. w/o the spaces
