Nvidia RTX 2080 and 2080Ti Benchmarks are starting to be released

Recommended Posts

that's pretty awesome @4k with msaa on. Dear Santa, I mean, Dear Eagle Dynamics, please implement DLSS lol.. he'd be getting like 90fps @4k touching the trees. It is the solution to all of our complaints about AA.

Spoiler

Win 11 Pro, z790 i9 13900k, RTX 4090 , 64GB DDR 6400GB, OS and DCS are on separate pci-e 4.0 drives

Sim hardware - VKB MCG Ultimate with 200mm extension, Virpil T-50CM3 Dual throttles.   Blackhog B-explorer (A), TM Cougar MFD's (two), MFG Crosswinds with dampener.   Obutto R3volution gaming pit.

Tweaked some settings last night, very pleasantly surprised with the results. Set super sampling to 1.5, everything else max except shadows flat only, draw distance extreme, MSAA 2x, SSAA 1.5x

Got solid and smooth 45fps, with frequent jumps up to 90 when not near big cities.

What is SSAA in dcs? I had not seen the setting before. Does someone have a link to some discussion around it? (Preferably discussion in the context of DCS)

So yeah, 2080ti seems like a real beast for VR.

SSAA - SuperSamplingAntiAliasing

Its the most expensive AA method - atleast in terms of video memory, and pretty much the same as PixelDensity setting. They both upscale the rendering resolution, and then scales it back to headset (or monitor) resolution.

So you are running Pixel Density twice basically. To use simple numbers, if you run 1000x1000 res, with this, the rendering process is actually running at 3062x3062. Or in other words, you are rendering 9 times the pixels (bandwidth) than native res.

Not sure if SSAA even works in VR though.

With PD, SSAA and MSAA you are running 3 AA methods and massively increasing your video memory usage / bandwidth, for not much gain.

If I was you, disable SSAA and MSAA, and just creep up PD a little, to maybe 1.8 - thats pretty much the max at where I can see a noticeable visual difference in VR.

Keep some overhead for heavy missions, mp etc. Way more valuable commodity than that little bit of extra visual quality, imo.

- Jack of many DCS modules, master of none.

- Personal wishlist: F-15A, F-4S Phantom II, JAS 39A Gripen, SAAB 35 Draken, F-104 Starfighter, Panavia Tornado IDS.

Just got my 2080ti (that replace the 1070) and I don't found a lot a change expect a little more FPS in VR.

Without VR, I'm around 100/120 fps on Caucase full options but when I set MSAAx4 on, it's still unplayable.

Does the DLSS will be one day added ?

Thank, yeah, seems the SSAA might not be the best idea. Although, if I just run PD, its for more jagged teeth that a saw! So will probably stick to 1.5PD and MSAA 2x.

Cthulhus, what res are you running at?

2560x1440 on 2D

and for VR it's the Vive Pro so 1440 by 1600 per eye or 2880 by 1600 pixels in total.

I'm a bit disappointing regarding the perf. On 1070, the settings was a mix from Full/Med. Now, it's all full expected the Aliasing setting.

The DLSS option should help a lot when added.

Hmm, I did a quick test, I don't have the same resultion 2d, I have 2560x1080. With these settings (Going to try to attach. Trying again, not sure if I am allowed to attach pictures), on Caucus Huey Free Flight (Flying around the airbase there) I get between 110 - 150 fps, depending on where I look. With a fast mover higher up, it might be higher fps, not sure.

Edit* Tested with F/A-18 as well now, free flight, 120 - 180fps with settings as below.

The use of msaa 4X making it unplayable, is that in VR or 2D?

For VR I use the same settings, just the MSAA X 2, with a PD of 1.5

Cheers

That`s not encouraging news. I think we are stuck until the next 30 series gpu`s arrive along with the new CV2 etc. likely another 2yrs wait. I think I`ll look for a good deal on a 1080ti as an upgrade to my 1070. The 1070 really was an outstanding gpu for the money.

Here my settings : http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2018/39/7/1538324143-screen-180930-181340.png

I don't have your setting (and I'll try them on my PC). I don't use flat shadow because for me it's a nice addition to show moving shadow on your cockpit. It's very impressive.

Some detailed testing of 1080Ti vs 2080Ti. There seems to be about 50% improvement in FPS for 2080Ti. Rift or Vive.
