What to do in Mission 5?

Recommended Posts

I've taken off, climbed to altitude, destroyed the first camp. Got the message that the camp had been satisfactorily destroyed. Proceeded to take out all the tanks, helicopter, APC, and truck at the second target, all apart from one tank. As I was working on the last tank, I got the radio message that the Mi-8's were being chased by hinds and to proceed to VS-4. I climb up, go there, and hover exactly on the VS-4 spot on the ABRIS- and nothing, the hinds/Mi-8 do not appear. I even turned on labels to look around, can't find them. What am I doing wrong?

Hello! Perhaps you flew past the trigger zone, which is necessary for the appearance of the Mi-24 and Mi-8.

Try again. You need to destroy only the first task - the field camp.

You don’t need the second goal. After successfully destroying the camp, you will be asked to provide assistance for the MI-8

Where is this trigger zone? I did successfully get the message to provide help, was told to make sure to use A/A mode. It told me to fly to VS-4 (at the top of the mountain), which I did, then nothing.

I looked at the trigger system and the Mi-8 and Mi-24 groups are tied to only one condition - to destroy the first target (as proof you get a message asking to cover the Mi-8 group)

Helicopters appear 67 seconds after the training exercise. I attached a trigger diagram, but the helicopters are not tied to any zone. Most likely they flew further along their route or were shot down (if the Mi-24 shoot down the Mi-8 you will learn about it from radio messages)

I’m loving this mission, but for the life of me, I’m unable to lock onto the hinds to fire the vikhr. I’ve managed to shoot down one hind with guns, but I always get shot down by the second one. How do you guys lock onto the hinds? I’m using my optical helmet site to help locate them to no avail.

Hi yes this is a rather complicated process. First of all, be sure to indicate the type of target on the left panel - air target.
It is imperative to train and test your skills in working with air targets and precision equipment. Perhaps have you forgotten anything? - Laser rangefinder, exhibition of the capture frame by the size of the target.
The last thing you can do is slow down time, in this case you will have more options.

Tactical Advantage - You already know where the Hind will appear. You need to gain altitude in advance, in this case you will be able to detect the Hind at a fairly large distance and you will have time to work.

I finally completed this mission today, but not with missiles. It was guns only, which resulted in the Hind wingman crippling my helicopter. I only received 80% mission rating as I had lost an engine and was unable to climb out of the valley to escort the Mi-8’s, even after jettisoning pods and missiles.

Sorry for the complexity! When creating, I go through missions 15-20 times, because of this I cannot objectively control the complexity of the mission

Hey mate, it wasn’t a complaint. I love the complexity of flying helicopters at altitude, being damaged just adds to the challenges and stresses LOL.

Increase the target box size to envelop the whole helicopter, including the rotor. If done on the screen, you have to aim ahead of the target, as there is a delay after pressing the lock button. Otherwise, it can be done with the HMS, put it over the enemy and hold lock until it's captured. You still have to adjust the box.

Another trick is to fire in manual mode with no lock, and keep HMS on the target. Try to lock it, but if you don't manage, you might still hit thanks to the proximity fuze. You of course want to be in AA mode!

I'll also add a little cheat code tip.
As soon as Hind enters your field of vision, you can reduce the passage of time and perform a lock on targets in slow motion (L.Ctrl+Z)
