Campaign Warships

I was reading through the campaign backgrounds again, and something occurred to me. The Persian Gulf campaign references the Iowa-class battleships as tanker escorts, and the Caucasus campaign specifically calls out USS Missouri as part of the Battle Group.

As far as I know, the Iowa-class currently only exists as a user mod. Are these warships going to be officially implemented as part of the campaigns?

Unfortunately, they would not be appropriate for the Normandy map. By this point they had received their 1980s refit, which added Phalanx CIWS and TLAM box launchers, while removing several of the 5" gun turrets.

Shh... facts and reality are of little matter to the DCS fan base!!!:megalol:

In all seriousness, I'm curious about how Heatblur will address this as well. Iowa (BB-61) and Missouri (BB-63) both deployed to the Gulf for Earnest Will and "Mighty Mo" was in the region at around the time the Heatblur F-14A campaign takes place. The battleship was said to have been capable of single-handedly destroying all the Iranian military installations along the Strait of Hormuz and its armor was said to be capable of absorbing the impact of a Silkworm missile.

In September '87, the U.S. had the Constellation, Ranger, and Missouri battle groups all at Gonzo Station. That's some serious firepower!

What do you mean how HB will address this? I'm pretty sure they won't add the Iowa class ship to the game just to add a bit more immersion to one fictional campaign.

It'd be a pretty big undertaking and modeling the Forrestal class and the A-6 is already more than generous enough from their side.

i386DX40@42 MHz w/i387 CP, 4 MB RAM (8*512 kB), Trident 8900C 1 MB w/16-bit RAMDAC ISA, Quantum 340 MB UDMA33, SB 16, DOS 6.22 w/QEMM + Win3.11CE, Quickshot 1btn 2axis, Numpad as hat. 2 FPH on a good day, 1 FPH avg.

DISCLAIMER: My posts are still absolutely useless. Just finding excuses not to learn the F-14 (HB's Swansong?).

Annoyed by my posts? Please consider donating. Once the target sum is reached, I'll be off to somewhere nice I promise not to post from. I'd buy that for a dollar!

I'm certainly not requesting that Heatblur models the Iowa-class, nor do I feel entitled to it. But I did find it curious that both campaigns specifically called the class out as contributors in the campaigns (real-world for PG, fictional for C). It made me wonder if there was already intent to include them.

the mod iowa is the WWII set up so that while not perfect is pretty cool for the nomandy map I'd love to see a 1980's retrofit iowa in game especially for the Huey to land on the fantail

Im not demanding heatblur do it, i think they where more then generous with the content with the F-14 but just be a nice thing to have form any content creator.

Hopefully Heatblur in given time pays faith to the CVBG, considering what’s the purpose of the Tomcat on a carrier if there is no fleet to protect! I also really hope that the CVBG and its Defense plays a large role in their campaigns. A full blown attack on the CV would be a very intense thing to fight off.

The pre-order footage suggests that we will indeed be defending the CVBG against full blown attacks.

This is where having two very different campaigns really shows it's worth. The pre-order footage gave us a glimpse of what we can expect in the F-14B campaign - Badgers, Backfires, and Bears, oh my!

The F-14A campaign pits us against Iran, who represent a very different kind of threat, but challenging nonetheless. Instead of going straight for the jugular like the Soviets would do, the Iranians would instead try to trap the CVBG or its aircraft, engage in hit-and-run attacks, etc. They wouldn't mount a full-blown attack against a CVBG, as it'd be suicide. Instead, they'd try to bleed us out over time to raise the costs of the conflict to unacceptable levels.
