GTX 1070Ti still sufficient?

Recommended Posts

Hi

As many others here, I'm planning to build a new rig since up to now I play on my Laptop, using 12GB Ram and a GTX 765m, and it is unplayable. It crashed after minutes and I play at the lowest settings. With the upcoming Tomcat, I need something stronger.

That said, I want to point out that I can't just afford a 2000€ rig. I'm heading towards a maximum of 1300€. Now, since the new RTX cards are out and first benchmarks were done, i come to the conclusion that these cards are not really a 'best-bang-for-the-buck' alternative, I'm looking for. Parallel to the release of the new cards, the 10X0 series becomes cheaper which brings me to the consideration of buying a 1070Ti. It is about 430€ and just a little bit slower than a 1080 but 100€ cheaper (at least).

Can anyone point out his experience with this card? I would use it in combination with a 2600x processor and 16GM 3200MHz Ram.

Also worth noticing is that I currently have only a 1080p monitor which I'm planning to use for quite a while. Hence, the card does not need to have a fance 4K performance or even VR. Although I play in Full HD, DCS should look pretty decent und run fluently.

Do you think, a 1070Ti is enough for my purpose? Or do you have an advce, I should consider?

thanks for your opinion!

I've got a GTX 1070Ti in my rig together with 32 GB RAM and an Intel i5 8600k at 6 x 4,5 GHz (overclocked). So far no problems at 1080p with all the eyecandy activated. The modules I fly are in the signature. Cheers!

I also plan The final update for my old system. Memory 16gb 1600MHz --> 32gb, 970 GTX -> 1070 Ti. I hope my CPU 2500k @4,3Ghz is not bottlenecking. Using 26" 1920x1200 display + 1280x1024 for MFD exporting.

The 1070 will be fine with everything maxxed out but I would get 32 Gb of ram.

I have I7-7700 at stock speeds with 32 Gb 3200 ram and a 1080p monitor. With VSync turned on I get a smooth 60 fps down low over Dubai which is where I test settings. VSync turned off gives me 100 fps with other settings the same.

With 16 Gb of ram DCS would crash to desktop over Dubai and stutter in the Caucasus.

Enjoy your new system.

Thanks Guys! That's good to hear.

That may be worth considering. However, without doubting your experience, I read different opinions on that. Luckily, increasing RAM later is not that of a problem.

Thanks

Like everything else free advice is worth what you pay for it. :)

The stutters weren't bad over the Caucasus but very noticeable when I would glance 9 o'clock at a populated area - the system crashes over Dubai were bothersome.

Also I like to turn the graphics settings all the way up to 11 - maybe that was part of my histrionics on the issue. :D

16 gig'er here, and I have absolutely no problem on the Persian Gulf map, anywhere in 1080p with my 1070 and quite high settings. Goes for any map. Even in unit saturated missions. Sure in the really heavy ones, Ill get the occasional load stutters, but nothing massive, and certainly not crashing.

- I do run a 24492mb (windows recommended) pagefile though. Should you run out of physical memory, and have no or too small a pagefile, sure, then the game will crash.

See my signature for full specs.

- Jack of many DCS modules, master of none.

- Personal wishlist: F-15A, F-4S Phantom II, JAS 39A Gripen, SAAB 35 Draken, F-104 Starfighter, Panavia Tornado IDS.

I guess your mileage my vary - my system is like between that of Bun and Knock-Knock, also 1080p, high graphics settings (a bit conservative on reducing clutter like trees/particles/view distance). 16 GB - finally actually managed to install/upgrade to this spec!

So far mostly just light singleplayer and flying around the PG map (helicopter and F-18 ). It's quite amazing how well DCS has been running for me, much smoother than 6 years before when I tried it with a practically brand new computer. (Core i3 -> i5 may make a difference...) The PG map seems to be running very well... will yet have to try the tricks like looking all directions while going between the skyscrapers in Dubai or to run an actual mission (the map is so amazing I've been just gasping at some Iranian mountains so far). But it's all quite promising yet. Any other ideas to find your performance bottlenecks, I hear multiplayer can be fairly demanding too?

Also looking to upgrade to 4K. Now I'm running GTX1070 and would continue with that to 4K. Will probably have to play around with the graphics settings to make it fit 4K. Upgrade to dual 1070 a bit down the road with a newer system.

If i want play dcs world on a screen of 28 " and at 4 k and all candies set on ,what is the card that i need use ?.no msaa,i know that it is a fps killer

Thanks in avance

For 4K, get the fastest card you can afford.

Btw, the dimensions of the screen do not matter. 4k at 28" is the same as 4k at 60" when in comes to performance.

1070Ti will be fine. I have an i5-7600K at 5GHz with 16GB at 3200MHz. I'm running a 3440x1440 monitor and haven't yet experienced stutters, although I've been playing offline and my missions aren't enormous resource hogs.

Definitely consider upgrading to two sticks of 16GB instead of 8GB. I think you're right about your assessment of the RTX cards right now. You could possibly find a 1080 or 1080Ti second hand, but the 1070Ti is pretty solid.

1070ti here and it runs DCS really smooth. :)

My system (pretty low end by now):

i7 2600K @stock speed 3.4 GHz

16 GB RAM

2560*1440 primary screen

The 1070ti provided a really nice boost about a year ago. For a short while, I ran it with a 4K display and frame rates were still bearable, but with a 1080p resolution you should be more than good.

Heck my 980Ti pushes 80-100 FPS @3440x1440 without AA over Caucasus, with dips to 55ish with MSAA x2. Persian Gulf would maybe see 35 fps lows over the largest cities. 980Ti performance is comparible to 1070 performance, either shouldn't struggle with 1080P.

Spoiler

Win 11 Pro, z790 i9 13900k, RTX 4090 , 64GB DDR 6400GB, OS and DCS are on separate pci-e 4.0 drives
