Stable/Best Nvidia Driver for GTX 1080Ti with Windows7-64bit

Recommended Posts

Hope someone can help me with advice as to best/stable Nvidia Driver for GTX 1080Ti with Windows7-64bit. I have heard that Nvidia driver version 391.24 is pretty good but need more choices.

Also can anyone tell me is Geforce Experience software deselectable with latest drivers in the 400 series version range. I hate this software as it is very problematic so when I install a driver I deselect it and do a custom install without it. I heard somewhere that the very latest drivers do not give you a choice upon install to get rid of Geforce Experience...it is mandatory. Is this true?

I wonder if i write here that 388.71 or 399.07 are superb so you have 3 to choose from now. I haven't tried that 391.24 one so i can't tell but will you only choose on rumors that they are good?

And now that have 3, do you still need more choices and which one will you pick and if you pick one, you picked it based on what?

(i don't want to be rude but i would like to point out the sillyness of your question, certainly the "i need more choices" part).

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind combat pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

I have a GTX 1080Ti and have been using the 411.70 drivers for the last 2 weeks or so. I also do a custom install and if any else is loaded, IE: Genforce Experience I just remove it. So far the 411.70 drivers are working just fine for me.

good ol' 388.71 keeps coming up again and again....will run with it and if any issues come up can try some other suggestions. thanks for input everybody but I am really wanting input from users of Windows7-64bit not users of a 1080Ti with Windows10-64 bit...that is a substantial difference in configuration.

glad to hear that Nvidia have listened and allowed GF Experience to be deselected upon install of latest drivers. it is troublesome software and i like to avoid it...Gary

Yeah W7-64bit...much more stable than Windows 10. End of life for W7-64bit is January 2020; but do not be surprised if Microsoft extend that date. W7-64bit is biggest OS used in China so with their numbers in the picture Microsoft may just extend support for W7 past January 2020.

This is what happened to Windows XP...support was extended even further due to sheer numbers of users in China on XP. I shall stick with W7 until my MOBO dies then shall go for W10...hopefully that will be sometime after 2020 and hopefully W10 will be much more sorted out then....we hope.

Wait what?

The only reason I switched to WIN10 from WIN7 was when I upgraded to my current CPU 7700K and "they" said it wasn't "supported" any more. I never just tried it though. Why does that not surprise me? I have my version of WIN10 stuck on build 1503 in an update loop on a metered connection so it never downloads. It's the only way to keep it stable. Half the "security updates" were really just .exe files for a pop up to scare you to update.

I think I upgraded that 7 license key to WIN10 on another machine too, bummer.

WIN10 has been a nightmare for legacy flight sims that were just fine on WIN7. The only advantage is if you play new games that use DX12. DCS renders in the DX11 api, there is no benefit that I'm aware of to running DCS under WIN10.

Edit: I've just recently tried out the 399.24 driver upgrading from 388.71 and am very happy with the performance with the latest build of the open beta. Even the Normandy map seems to be running better now too. I'm sticking with 399 for now.

The only true sad thing about this is, in 2020 the show is over and everybody will more or less be forced to upgrade to a newer Windows OS version.

I can very well understand why people remain on 7 for everyday work.

yep it’s true. they do it for accounts with big money.

like GE and the US military

That is something different than publically available updates.

You/we will not see any of those fixes those customers pay for.

Before they give you more Win7 they rather open the door to 10 again for free imho.

They really really wanna push them all to 10. No wonder why, click the Start button and look yourself, scroll through it, there is the pitfall and money ot make hidden.

BTW, I run Mint 19 all day long, I have quit with 10 for various reasons. The only reason I keep the install is ..again...DCS, and while I have DCS I keep the other games too.

I am more than fed up with my 1809 install, sfc /scannow, DISM, regedit,,,all that BS to fix their flaws ( ok, SOME where mine, ahem ).

No, for my daily stuff, a nice Linux is all I need, and if it really has to be Win, there is VMware, VirtualBox, a Mac, a DualBoot, etc...

I hope they get 10 straight during 2019. This is a BIG ClusterF....
