doclucio Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 hi, i am trying to be proficient with this weapon but i have some difficulties/questions.... 1) I find it very difficult to gain a lock, so what is the best altitude, distance from target and speed to use this bomb?!? 2) When using it with the POD and guiding it, my plane should be with autopilot on and so i am quite vulnerable to AA and SAM, so my question...when should i choose this weapon, what are the targets of choice?!? THKS FOR YOUR HELP
Bunny Clark Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 RedKite has a great overview and tutorial video here: Functionally, it's a bit like a Maverick, and in some applications the Maverick replaced it in service. There are two significant differences between the Walleye and Maverick: the Walleye has a 2,000 pound warhead, so it'll blow up much bigger; and with the datalink pod you can steer the Walleye in flight. AstonMartinDBS Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 Here's the link to the Walleye tutorial from Wags: hi, i am trying to be proficient with this weapon but i have some difficulties/questions.... 1) I find it very difficult to gain a lock, so what is the best altitude, distance from target and speed to use this bomb?!?It's quite tricky to get a lock onto the desired target with the Walleye - the seeker needs a high contrast for a valid lock. Usually you'll use it for bigger targets (buildings). Altitude/distance depends especially on the target size and light conditions. I've got the best results at an altitude of ~25k ft or above.
