TM Warthog HOTAS mapping for Squadrons

Recommended Posts

Whereas there are various TM Warthog HOTAS mappings for the F/A-18 here in the forums (& YT), they all seem to vary in functionality and feature set. I can assume that some were configured as newer features were added by DCS along the way. I realize I can set up my HOTAS for my own personal needs and wishes but that would be useless as I have no friggin idea what I'm doing in the cockpit of this beautiful bird...hence, I'm begging for assistance.

I'm sure there are other solo flyers or noobs that share my sentiment; they just haven't come to the point of groveling for mercy and assistance. It's not that I'm a complete moron, it's just that my 4 years of flying have been limited to the A-10C, and ....my caretaker only let's me fly in the back yard.

I'm hoping there is a squadron of F/A-18 pilots out that have cooperatively established a TM Warthog-F/A-18 standard config that is updated to the latest DCS version (DCS/2.5.3.24984) that has the various RADAR and Weapons integrations, Sensor Control Switch, TDC and especially the latest Maverick slew & cage/uncage settings.....that actually work! Not that I'm begging for much..eh?

So how 'bout it....can some of you jet jockey meat puppets help out a senior citizen that worries about dirtying his adult diaper every time that f#&king Maverick triangle runs off the HUD like a junkyard dog????!!!!!

I'm taking my meds but ....hopefully you can understand

.... every time that f#&king Maverick triangle runs off the HUD like a junkyard dog????!!!!! ..

you cage (re-cage) the MAV with "c" and the triangle will re-centre.

(If not, you have a bad

"c:\Users\<your username>\

..\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\FA-18C_hornet\keyboard\Keyboard.diff.lua",

at least, that's what I had)

BTW there are so many command in DCS/FA-18C I use voice commands (voice attack) to eleviate the button definitions (and also quite nice for instance in radio commands navigation)

In our squadron we don't have any hard requirements or standard mapping, we just expect that you have all the IRL Hornet HOTAS commands mapped in such a way that you can easily use them on your personal HOTAS. Humans are all different and have different ergonomics and hardware issues so it's important for the individual to find a setup that works well for themselves. It's too hard to come up with something standard when so many people have varied setups (for instance we have a couple people with the warthog combo, some with warthog throttle+vkb stick, x56 hotas, CH fightersticks, etc)

A good way to do it is take a diagram of the real Hornet HOTAS functions: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=206468 and get those mapped to your HOTAS first, then with any unused buttons you can map other useful functions (master modes are a good one, refuel probe, etc)

The best way to do it is set it up like the real thing (or as close as the TM let's you)

F18 Stick: https://forums.eagle.ru/picture.php?albumid=1512&pictureid=9805

F18 Throttle:https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ItBYk5piqLw/maxresdefault.jpg

The way I have the TDC set up is the same as the A10 but I also setup the TDC buttons on the spare hat switch on the stick (As only the castle and trim switches are used).

This way I press the designate where it is on the throttle and slew the maverick with the stick. Every other slew I still use axis on the throttle to keep the muscle memory.

As for the A/A weapons switch on the stick the realistic way is: Forward- AIM7, Right- AIM120, Aft-Guns, Depress-Aim9

Hope this helped!
