2.5.4 - VR very intermittent shadow on one eye

Mr_sukebe

Recommended Posts

Just been chatting with a fellow squadron member.

Seems that both of us are now experiencing an issue in VR.

On an intermittent basis, we're seeing a micro-second shadow on one eye in VR. I've experienced it in both the F18 and Harrier, haven't tested other aircraft yet.

System: 9700, 64GB DDR4, 2070S, NVME2, Rift S, Jetseat, Thrustmaster F18 grip, VPC T50 stick base and throttle, CH Throttle, MFG crosswinds, custom button box, Logitech G502 and Marble mouse.

Server: i5 2500@3.9Ghz, 1080, 24GB DDR3, SSD.

Pretty sure I am seeing it in the Spit now too.

I was like what is causing that flashing of light.

I was glad to see this thread, at first I was worried my Rift headset might be starting to fail.

I figured since it just started doing it after today's update it was likely something in it.

I have same issue with Rift CV1 since 2.5.4 update. I'm currently rolling it back just to confirm it is an update issue but this thread seems to suggest it is.

Has anyone reported the bug to ED?

Hum not seeing that on my VIVE have tried looking. Only flown one mission so far though, maybe module dependent.

But so far what an update! No longer any stutters on pilot eject (something I have longed for) performance seems much increased, which means clarity is increased with MS (though only tried limited missions so far). The Bf109 cockpit looks fantastic. The clarity of the cockpit is so much better. The BF109 actually looks more like it does in BOX now, only with greater depth perception! Gonna have to do more testing, to assure myself it's not all placebo but this is really looking good so far!

Edit- can't see the shadow. Is anyone noticing that the trees and buildings look better as well. Like the colors have changed or something?

I have rolled back to 2.5.3 and can confirm the VR issue do not exist in 2.5.3.

Not sure what to do now as the server I usually connect to has rolled forward. Just wait and see what ED say I suppose.

Hopefully they will get this bug identified and a fix out before long.

for what it's worth, I do not have the one eye issue when flying the A-4-C. All appears to be good for it. (I presume since it's not part of the DCS source re-compile, therefore it's not part of this issue).

would appreciate if someone else can confirm their A-4-C

One reason I might not have this problem is that I cleaned DCS and ran a repair before the update. Also try deleting all the FXO shaders. Worth a try.

Yeah I always delete my fxo and metashaders when getting a new update.

Might try a repair later, out of time now and we will be traveling for holidays.

Maybe upon my return it will be fixed also.

I have the same issue, in the Rift: right eye goes completely black for about 300 ms.

I also experience black artefacts in both eyes, most noticeable in helicopters (I only flew the Mi-8 today). It is not related to flat/default shadow settings: I have them in both.

On a positive note, I noticed MUCH improved framerate and general smoothness. So I reckon these black artefacts are a by-product of the VR-optimisations that were included in this patch.

I don't have this problem, so far have only been flying Mustang....

Although I did have cause to run a repair after update due a non related issue....

I have latest Nvidia drivers too...

I have noticed if you are looking at bodies of water the flickering is bad, if you are over large expanse of land there is no flickering. Fly in to Iran on PG map, no flicker, RTB to Kish, flickering really bad. Found similar issues in Caucasus Map.

Interesting, I have not noticed any performance improvement flying the Spit over Normandy.

If there has not been another update when I get back later next week from holiday, will try a repair maybe.

Same here. It's like a whole frame on one eye is coming in just black. It shows as a very quick black flicker in one eye.

Come to think of it, it might be more prevalent over water... I'll have to test some more.

No mods in use, and I did run a repair and update NVidia drivers, as well as rebooted the system. I haven't deleted FXO/Metashaders yet.

Yeah I think you are right regarding over water. I take off in Normandy in the Spit and fly out over the water. Don't notice it during takeoff. Then it starts happening, and especially if I do a split-S coming back down toward the water, it does it a lot there.
