Where are you guys finding the settings for wmr for steam to select beta version?

I've installed WMR, and if I search for it in the store it says it is my library, but if I go to my library page I don't see it in the list.

Thanks

I also think you need steam VR beta installed too. When I tried this expirament, wmr is under the software section at the top where you can filter by games/apps. I set wmr to open beta and it just said beta next to the name but when it booted up it looked the same as before until I updated steam VR to beta too.

Either way I am back on the stable steam VR and stable wmr app. You can still scale resolution to 200 without the beta. Open steam VR, go to settings, on the left side select video and then tick the checkbox that says manual override. Mine already said 200 when I ticked that box.

Since the last WMR patch, it's now the default setting, there is no longer a need to set it.

So the trash image quality of DCS with this VR set with supposedly great displays is just the limits of the hardware? Great... How utterly disappointing this technology is.

Wow you are a bundle of joy aren't you. Have you changed the settings pixel density etc to get it looking good?

Sorry, I've literally been struggling with configuring DCS with this VR headset for months, and was close to giving up entirely.

It turns out that turning down my PD in DCS from 1.4 to 1.0 improved my clarity problems immensely. It's still not as sharp as I would like, but isn't the mess that it was. This was against practically all advice given by many people. It's actually playable now.

What would be the difference between 200% Steam VR SS with (in-game)PD 1.0 and 100% Steam VR SS with (in-game) PD 2.0;

Shouldn't both configs show the same effect and same performance? In fact, doesn't this invoke the very same API-fucntion-call on the graphic card?

Yeah these should be the same. Some people prefer the in game PD as it may be smoother.

I like the in game because it's in game; makes it easier to adjust. Not a small consideration when starting out because there's a lot of graphics settings fiddling getting your frame rate where it needs to be while also trying to get the best visuals. The thing is you end up going back to PD and adjusting after those settings so keeping it closer=better.

in game PD vs steam SS

from our calculations and experiments it seems that 200% SS is in correlation with approx 1.45 in game PD with odyssey. I was able to reproduce the clearest image with maximum of 208% or 209% SS and 1.0 in game PD.

important thing to notice is that when WMR reprojection kicks in limiting the output to 45 frames - the image quality is affected as well. its artifact is a very slight blur that disappears when you get back to ~90 fps. so guys with constant motion vector setting be advised.

note - msaaX2 wont disable the clear image even with 208% SS. it may look a bit softer in game but the odyssey still delivers its best available image which breaks when going over 209% or so or choosing higher than 1.4 in game PD with SS on 100%

How do you set this with the latest beta, which seems to have taken away the percentage

Steam VR settings under application tab should look you to change the super sample %

Launch dcs and you should see dcs in the application tab drop-down. From what I remember you can force SS in steam under the video tab of steam VR settings but this does it for everything.

After the most recent steam update it does not give a percentage just an absolute alue

What you can do is start DCS, go to steamvr beta, open settings and click on Applications. DCS should be listed in there. this will give you a percentage.

I figured this out last night when I got my new RTX2070. But I found that I get better graphics quality and FPS if I use a SS of 100% and set the PD to 1.6. I do use MSAA 2x to get nice and smooth. I love this new setup.

I'm saying in the latest beta 1.3.5 neither DCS nor the percentages show up

I understand what you are saying Stuart, I had the same thing happen. I had to try it a few times before it worked. Have the settings window open, start DCS, use Alt-Tab to go to the settings window. After 3 times (don't know why) DCS.EXE showed up and I could select it. This then showed it in percentage.

OK I gave the wrong instructions as I did not remember it exactly what I did last night at 2am :smilewink:

Start DCS and the SteamVR app will open too then go to settings and DCS is listed.

As others have stated the motion reprojection does not seem to make any difference for me. I just tested it and turning it gives me the same image quality and FPS. This seems to be since the last update. Let's see what happens tomorrow.

ah ha that worked!!! - Many thanks!

try this "forceHalfRateWithReprojectionMode" : "motionvector", instead of "motionReprojectionMode" : "motionvector",

my frame rate improved by 50%

I will try this later. Thanks, Stuart, I wish you could set the quality per eye as I am 85% blind in my left eye :megalol:

I see no difference in FPS. But no matter how I set the different settings the trees at 200 yards away or buildings are blurry. This might not be the right way of describing it, jitteryis better, I have played with the anti aliasing settings but it does not make a difference. It is not a problem in the air, only eye candy sake on the ground.
