Lixma 06 Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 I've noticed many people are having trouble with their custom snap-views not being saved or having them disappear. I've run into this myself lots of times and while I can show evidence of what is happening on I can't figure out why it's happening. Occasionally when you save a mission in the mission editor DCS will include a bunch of other files; including the player's entire Config/View folder. This means that every time you load this mission your current view settings will be overridden with those stored in this .miz file. It also means that any changes you make to your view settings while playing this mission will be 'forgotten' when you load up a different mission. Here's what the majority (99%) of my mission files look like - And here's one that for some reason has collected a bunch of extra stuff - It's these .miz files that are causing the problems people are having with their custom view editing. I don't know why DCS is including the extra files. It's been suggested that it happens when using the 'prepare mission' function - but while that might be true I can't remember ever using that feature. For all intents and purposes it seems to happen randomly.
Rudel_chw Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 I don't know why DCS is including the extra files.. This is not a bug. This mission was converted from a multiplayer track file, by renaming the .trk file into .miz ... probably this mission was given to you by someone else. When you do this type of conversion, you should use WinRar and delete the track and config folders from within the .miz ... leave the scripts file, as it is most likely required by the mission. It wasn't, I've never converted any mission from anything to anything else. That particular mission file is nothing more than a single Mig-29 parked on the runway, carrying smoke pods and fancy paint-job. I created it myself.
Pikey Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 Tracks are only created post mission. That's definitely not direct from ME. If you had used PREPARE MISSION you might have seen different extra folders with configs, eg abris, CDU, for hawg and Blackshark, but as it is, that's a mission that has not come firectly from the ME. ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *

I guarantee it came straight from the ME. This is my missions folder - ....all of them are incredibly basic missions, made by myself in the ME for testing, with no scripting or any fancy stuff. If I'm feeling extravagant I'll add some clouds. But for some reason DCS will occasionally include all the extraneous stuff - and it's the inclusion of the Views folder which is causing people headaches.

I'm not doubting you on this, but your problem is really strange. I've edited quite a bit of missions (like you, most are for my own use), some of them fairly sophisticated, and the only time I've seen extraneous folders within the .miz file are when I've converted tracks back into missions (tracks of any mission you have played include not only the unit's track data, but also the original mission itself). Sorry to not be able to help more, at least if the problem is infrequent on your part, you know how to fix it (removing the extraneous folders from within the .miz file with winrar). nighteyes2017 Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 I have the same problem here. Even when i start a new mission in the mission editor and save it, everything is fine. When i use the 'prepare mission' option (ctr-m), a config folder gets created wich also contains a copy of my snapviews.lua file from the savedgames/config/views folder. This gets shared over multiplayer and screws up the views from my clients that join the mission. Is this caused by a setting somewhere? is it a bug?
