Editing Labels.lua causes all labels to disappear

Loading up stock DCS labels.lua and setting to DOT ONLY everything works fine.

 

I copy the stock file to the Saved Games folder, load it again, and still, everything works fine.

 

If I then make a single edit on the \savegame labels.lua whether it be a change in symbol, alignment, opacity on anything when I restart the game all the labels disappear. If I go into labels.lua and change the value back to what it was, it still will not work. The only way to fix it is to delete it and recopy over the stock file again.

 

I made a backup of the stock lua file and made a change in the stock folder and I get the exact same problem. The only fix is to delete and put the backup back

 

I am a VR flyer just trying to make spotting a little easier with some basic changes, but nothing is working.

 

Any ideas?

Yep, That happened to me recently and just found the solution.

Use an adequate text editor, ie notepad++ to edit your .lua files and save.

If you use a regular text editor it saves in a way that doesn't work for the lua and dcs.
