Lag with the Harrier on servers without a sound card

Hi there,

I'm paraphrasing another thread in order to get this bug (behavior?) some visibility and (hopefully) to put it on Decoy's list.

We spent a lot of time understanding what happened to us on our rented server, but the quick rundown is this : when DCS is started on a server without a sound card, or through Remote Desktop while not choosing "Play sounds on remote computer", the Harriers in the game make everything lag after a few minutes.

The effect can be monitored on the CPU usage graph ; here's an example :

Legend :

1: a Harrier has been chosen in the Roles window

3, 4, 5 : each spike (downwards) correspond to a huge lag as seen by the players

2: the player in the Harrier returned to the Spectators

I post this here because it only happens with the Harrier and, while it has now a well-known and documented workaround, it may hide another, deeper bug.

Decoy, what do you think ?

I'm available to help in whatever way you want. I just have to restart our servers in the "wrong" way and join a flight with a Harrier...

Tested on three servers with these specs, ( no sound cards on either server)

I7 4770k - 1080ti - 64gb ram - NO ISSUE

i7 6700k - 1070 - 64GB ram -NO ISSUE

i7 6700k -NO GPU - 64GB ram - NO ISSUE

Cant replicate, if it happens again let me know , but for now i have moved this to resolved as i cant replicate the issue

I started seeing audio lag with the release of the F14. Its more like 30 seconds, generally at the start of missions. You would see the text pop up (calling ATC or whatever), then 30sec-2min later all of a sudden the audio kicks in. I've seen it happen in many different planes, including the harrier, so I think its more of a gneral DCS/ED issue. I doubt posting a track would be useful.

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

@Harlikwin it's not an audio lag, it's a global desynchronization

It's caused by something in correlation with the Harrier and a no-sound-card server accessed with Remote Desktop Protocol not configured as "play sounds on the remote computer".

If no harrier are present everything works.

If the DCS server is started on the remote computer while accessing it with RDP configured as "play sounds on the remote computer" it also works.

As soon as both of these conditions are not respected, big lags/desyncs occur for every connected client.

It was easily reproduced on our server. Decoy if you want to seriously invest into solving this I suggest that you PM me, maybe I can be of assistance ? I work in IT development so I know how difficult it is to solve bugs that you can't reproduce !
