Maybe. Having being caught up in the Crescent Bay hype train, then in the original CV1 pre order chaos, I will watch from the sidelines.

I still get a twitchy eye, thinking of the months of trolling through Reddit Oculus, six times a day, seeking news and watching order numbers far lower than mine finally getting card debit invoicing and shipping notification.

It was no picnic.

No one has any specs and no one knows for sure if they will announce it at all, pure speculation based on the fact they are attending the game devs conference.

I will look out for the display specs with interest, but if it is just a Rift with Go screens and inside out tracking, I doubt it will be enough to get me excited enough to raid my piggy bank.

Indeed, I am interested, but it will need to be closer to the Pimax 5k than the Go or odyssey.

I think Pimax shot themselves in the foot going for the lighthouse tracking instead of inside out, the additional cost of buying the lighthouses made it go from a no brainer, to a non starter in my case and probably a lot of other current Rift owners.

Not sure I want to see Oculus target specs similar to a headset that can hardly run the games I do.

I would be most happy with a small bump in resolution and FOV.

I've had decent performance with Pimax 5K+ (about the same as rift, as far as I can tell). So I think you'll be fine. Your CPU is a generation ahead!

I haven't had a chance to play with it for quite some time, but I hope to get some time in this coming weekend.

I hope Rift makes it competitive. I hope the FOV is wider. Now that I've seen the Pimax's FOV, I don't know if I can go back. :( It's one of those "you don't know what you don't know" situations. Here's to hoping Rift hits a home run instead of keeping pace only.

To what degree is this simply a function of Pixel power? That is to say that There’s only so many pixels DCS can push out under the current software. Until that changes wanting massive resolution and FOV may be pointless. Just saying.

I can't believe how people more believe to brand and marketing than to the technical specifications.

With Rift S everything is clear as daylight. It will have its advantages and disadvantages over the CV1. Will have a single display with split picture resolution 1280x1440 per eye and around 600 PPI what is better than CV1 but not compared to the WMR or Vive PRO.

This experience will be similar to Samsung Gear VR with Galaxy S6, visually.

Negative from CV1 is the fact that will have IPD software adjustment.

Pimax5K+ have so far best visual experience without comparing FOV, just picture clarity. This coming because of two major reasons. First is full RGB 4:4:4 display cheap LCD. Best clarity but bad color recognition and pail colors without real black and contrast. Such display is great for clarity on close distance especially text reading but in distance, the object could easily melt with background and not to be spotted. OLED fixing this detail but losing clarity.

Other advantages of Pimax5K+ coming from smaller lens magnification who is connected to the PPD. Pimax just has best PPD so far and that is another half of the "secret" why Pimax has the best clear picture.

No doubthPimax5K+ is the best VR on market right now but a question is is it worth it that high price? Pimax5K+ build in parts and its quality in production cost and tech specification could compare equal as Lenovo Explorer but for just 1 Pimax5K+ you can buy 3 Lenovo Explorers.

Another problem with Pimax5K and 8K is they are not finished products and there is still a lot of time to fix a lot of issues shown in practical use.

Wide FOV VR is not ready yet for hardware we got right now. It is struggling to run even on hi-end hardware. So before Pimax8KX and better hardware for it, this will wait for me.

Rift S will be a replacement for CV1 Rift. I guess. The fact that is hard to order new Rift, only true Facebook store, telling us that CV1 is probably is not producing anymore and Quest and Rift S should replace it. Quest is 400$ and S should be cheeper. Production cost ower Rift CV1 will be lower so we could expect it around 300$ as normal price in about 6 months.

Improved inside out tracking and competitive picture quality to the WMR will be good for entering in VR world and as a transition until Pimax8KX or some other Wide FOV HMD mature to be ready for massive usage.

I hope:

- ASW 2.0

- 1600 x 1440 per eye.

Cant wait for any news about S ;D also .

I can't believe how people more ...

Hi my great Youtuber! I Cant agree about the Pimax 5+ is the best VR on the market, very honest and lack of empty marketing and without PR chatting like the rest (is only slightly better with more issues than Oculus). Maybe on the paper yes ;). I wrote a big review about this in DCS and IL-2 http://yoyosims.pl/pimax-5k-virtual-reality . It has a lot of problems with performace, FOV and lens (large distortions around the edges) and issues with software, FOV as degrees is fantastic, but in total its a better as impersion only for me (as user): 20% max than normal CV1 but the price is more than 100% over CV1. Pimax5k+ is promised set but not perfect at all (till now).

Hope incoming - maybe here is a reason ;D.

To what degree is this simply a function of Pixel power? That is to say that There’s only so many pixels DCS can push out under the current software. Until that changes wanting massive resolution and FOV may be pointless. Just saying.

ITs complicated.

What you "see" in VR is a function of pixels per degree FOV. With a 1080p monitor you are in the 30-40ppd range, retinal level resultion is about 70, but you hit the point of diminishing returns past about 30ppd. Currently the rift is like 13ppd, VivePro/O+ and other like ~17. I think once headsets get into the mid20's and 30's people will be pretty happy with how VR looks.

Pushing enough pixels fast enough though is the issue. BUT here is something people are forgetting. If you consider the guy with a rift running PD 2.0 or whatever, he can basically run a headset at PD1.0 with 2x as many pixels with no loss in performance since he's already doing it (Actually a boost most likely since you don't have to downscale). The reason people are running those higher PD's is because the down-scaled image looks better/smoother etc, but its still down-scaled. Now imagine no down-scaling necessary with a higher res display.

Anyhow, I hope the Rift-S is better than 1600x1440... Or at least that it has some good anti-SDE if its that (which means it would be an O+ at that point).

Personally I think the new cosmos with 2160x2160 (most likely) will be new gold standard.

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Yup the cosmos is the one I'm most excited about. At this point in VR land, we get to pick between good PPD (resolution/clarity) and FOV. No gfx card on the planet can do both yet, and even the best ones can barely do the 4-5k pixels you need to do either.

If the display really is 2160x2160 with the 110 FOV you will get near 30ppd in terms of resolution (depending on lens design). And 30ppd in DCS will be killer, given that we are about half that now. I'm just doing my best to not overhype myself about it since we don't know for sure if they are using the qualcom baseline yet (many sources do suggest this).

Any word on when Cosmos might be coming?

They still have not released the Knuckles Controllers they have been hyping for couple of years now.
