If they release it... The delay is rather troubling.

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

Interesting Reddit thread (for what that source is worth) that indicates a first week in May release (I guess this week?)

Ryzen 7 5800X3D / Asus Crosshair VI Hero X370 / Corsair H110i / Sapphire Nitro+ 6800XT / 32Gb G.Skill TridentZ 3200 / Samsung 980 Pro M.2 / Virpil Warbrd base + VFX and TM grips / Virpil CM3 Throttle / Saitek Pro Combat pedals / Reverb G2

I was waiting for the Valve index specyfication but after the announcement I'm back reading the HP thread again.

In this sim we are never going to be able to utilise on better controller tracking not mentioning superior fps of the panels.

Yup... plus the reverb is cheaper too.

That Index is a pretty sexy unit though, very tempting.

I thought HP was only releasing a professional version of Reverb to businesses for now, and consumer coming later in year or did I read that wrong somewhere?

Yes, but I have to see the tests.

I just got the new system RTX 2080ti, i9 9900k, 32GB 32000, M.2 Pro, last week. All this goodness and I wonder if its going to fly with the resolution of the headset. Now, how crazy is that?

If DCS is not going to make it in Reverb(even after the terrain update) I'll reconsider the Index.

Yeah, but the Index is only a 1440 line display. I bet there will be little difference in the experience compared to the Rift S.

Im no expert on this but...

Yes, its going to be less resolution on the Rift part.

Index is 1440×1600 two panels for each eye,

Oculus is a single panel of 2560x1440.

Correct me if im wrong but having 3200 of horizontal resolution is better than having 2560 in the Rift S.

+ there is the mechanicaly adjustable IPD that goes with two screens that Index has.

Just remember the performance required from that increase in res. Reverb is designed for commercial uses not necessarily gaming applications. I see DCS struggling to optimize reverb res unless this VR update is as amazing as they say.

The clarity is probably going to be the same as the rift s, as the additional horizontal resolution will be strettched for the needs of the additional FOV.

Its not going to help you with spotting targers but still its going to mae a more immersive experiance on the Index part.

Im all there for the tests.

The Valve Index is just another sub-par gen 1.5 HMD. I`m disappointed and hoped it would have been otherwise, as I would have ordered the full pack for ~1K euro this week if the res matched or surpassed the reverb. It`s a bit pathetic to watch the usual VR youtubers gushing about such a deficient hmd for the price. It`s like watching sheep being herded into a pen. At least I`ll save 400 odd euro going for the Reverb.

Except that the resolution is 2880x1600 exactly like the Samsung odyssey one...not 3200.

The difference with the rift s is marginal and with good rgb strip and lenses could be unnoticed...

If only the index had inside out tracking for 500$ and improved tracking for 999$

My bad.

To understand it better I made a quick comparison of resolutions.

Resolution alone doesn't make a good headset, though.

You're right about that. Take for example Vive Pro and Samsung Odyssey +, same res (2880x1600), but less clarity on the O+ as Samsung adopted a 'solution' for excessive SDE which tends to blur the image compared to the Vive Pro.

I'll take more clarity and a bit of SDE any time! But, it's all just a personal preference.

Ya, when they first released the initial specs on the Index as using an old/slow Displayport 1.2 connection, I knew it was not going to be good. I will be using the Reverb with the new Index controllers and lighthouses.

So the best HMD + the best controllers/tracking.

From what I understand its that 1440 in Rift S specification is height.

In valves Index 1440 is Width. The height of valve index is 1600. thats why they dont match up. Valves panel is slightly wider and taller.

In VR is different. the real resolution you got in PPD (Pixel Per Degree) so divide horizontal resolution with FOV on the single eye.

In this case, theoretically, Rift S got slightly better PPD (12.8 than Index (12.5) due to a higher FOV of Index. PPD is basically the same but Index got significantly higher FOV what is an added bonus to immersion but the picture clarity should be the same. Full RGB LCD both.

The question is, is it Index worth this additional minimum 600$ when your ad tracking and controller solution to match possibilities? End price will be 3 times higher or Index will cost the same as Rift S + RTX 2080 together.

There is another possible issue with Index.

Index increase FOV by adding a 5° angle to the displays and moving lenses little more to the outside. But this has some tradeoff in reducing 3D on peripheral vision.

No one knows yet how much this will affect especially in DCS inside the cockpit? At least to the first reviews focused on this issue.

Also, this is affecting on PPD. Again PPD. In my previous post I mention PPD but in this case, when we check it more thoroughly how increasing of FOV is made in that way it is not affecting much on PPD as on 3D stereoscopic illusion of 3D spaace.

Whatever it is we don't know anything about it before proper testing especially for such specific usage as in Sims.
