HP's Reverb VR Pro Headset

I think so too ...but better than a 1080P monitor...thats a stretch I would say, close but I don't know....

It's been a while since I ran DCS on a 1080 monitor. But I recently changed my laptop form 3000x2000 Surface Book to a temp Lenovo that's 1080. And it looks pretty ugly, I must say. So it *could* be...

Hmm, I do have a second DCS account with modules. Maybe I'll do a test.

Well, I pulled the trigger on one finally, after much indecision! I still have concerns with only having an RTX 2070 but upgrading to a 2080 Ti is out of the question at the moment (prices range from 2100 to 2500 down this way! :( )

New stock becomes available on the July 12 it seems

SteamVR at 188%. No other changes. In fact, I didn't even change the Nvdia control panel. Normally I set the slider to "performance" I haven't enabled WMR motion smoothing. I'm not even sure if SteamVR has it? But the only thing I changed in SteamVR was 188%.

DCS PD at 1.0. Also, I do run at 5.1Ghz and we're at the same CPU/GPU level. I think the memory speed is in my Spoiler/sig.

and my in-game setting

Thanks for that. Your settings are significantly lower than mine, so probably explains it!

For those with the Reverb, what’s your view on the ‘3D-ness’ of the headset? Did I read somewhere that the Reverb isn’t quite as strong at creating a 3D view for some reason? Ie things appear quite flat?

For me, I felt the colour rendering was a little flat. Lacking in contrast and dynamic range compared to the OLED panels of the VP. That maybe what some people are talking about in terms of the 3D-ness? Not sure, but I had no problems with that really.

Does it support Steam VR?

Yes, it does, via WMR for SteamVR on the Steam Store.

There's at least one person on here with a 2070 and a reverb and they were able to run DCS without issues. As long as you turn off shadows and don't use too much msaa you should be fine.

Flickering update number 1 ...Wednesday night after about 2 hrs play when the headset heated up I got flickering ....

Thursday morning fired it up and within 2 hrs flickering started again .....then last night I put a small fan on a shelf above my monitor blowing down towards my face as I played and I experienced no flickering after 2 hours ......

Later today I may still throw in the powered usb pci card and test but maybe not.....sure looks like an over heating issue to me I'll do some more testing later.

Interesting. I never had flicker, just disconnects. But I also run a 12" fan at all times, it stopped sweaty face and misting up lenses in the Rift.

Also have the powered USB cards. So who knows.

If you try one with no change, at least there is something else to try.

Graphic Horsepower for Reverb:

I run it on my 1080ti FTW3 and it runs like a bat outta hell.

Not an average 1080ti true, but no need to upgrade quite yet.

Flickering in Right Occular:

I've plugged it into a 4 Port/4 Controller PS Powered USB 3.x Card. Recommended card for VR work by several manufacturers. (The Reverb is the only thing plugged in there right now)

I still get flicker about 5 minutes into the flight, it lasts for about another 5 minutes then disappears. It does not repeat for me over the next 1-2 hrs.

The screens seem crisper and faster for having done so. Subjective to be sure, but seems better than when it was plugged into the MB USB ports.

It can do no harm. Rift certainly needed extra power to push the sensor and headset. This was before touch and two sensors were released.

Now that is interesting in that those ports are especially supposed to be free of any interference and be very clean and continous power for audio. The Reverb must be very sensitive to clean power?

The WMR motion reprojection needs about 55-60 fps to work properly (it is less efficient that either SteamVR's motion smoothing or Oculus's ASW) but when on works well.

WMR doesn't require 55-60 fps to work properly. What they MS guy told, is that your PC should be capable of rendering game at about 60 fps, because interpolation itself requires some GPU horsepower. Same is valid for Oculus ASW too, because interpolation doesn't come for free.

I started playing with Reverb today. I´m new to WMR (used to the Oculus enviroment).

I installed all software, WMR, steam VR etc. and launched DCS (it was super clear :-) )

Next time that I launch DCS I can´t re-center the view (numpad 5). It keeps snapping back to where I´m sitting 2m above the airplane.

I have adjusted the floor level in WMR Room adjustment and also re-centered the floor in Steam VR. But nothing helps. What´s wrong?

Motion Reprojection thoughts. I still have it on and basically never see the red indicator come on. I am not seeing many of the artifacts or ghosting mentioned from old reviews (like a year ago) so I am wondering if [they] must be updating/improving it. It would nice if a change log existed of updates.

So the green indicator comes on (reprojection shuts off) when the game is consistently rendering at the full 90 FPS or red when the game renders below 45 FPS (not 60 FPS). If you are not reliably seeing at least 50 FPS (with it off) and the red indicator is on a lot when it is on, it probably does not make sense to use it.

It is really only beneficial in a range (at least 50 FPS+ but somewhere below 90 FPS. Even pointed skyward I don't see the red indicator come on as it stays in the 80-90 FPS so I think it makes sense to use it for the performance level of my setup with the Reverb. Your mileage will likely vary. I think if DCS reliably stayed at maybe 75 FPS or higher on the low end I would turn it off. I would take a true 75 FPS over a semi-virtual 90 FPS possibly depending on the visuals.

"When motionReprojectionMode is set to "auto", motion reprojection will turn on automatically when a game is rendering too slowly to maintain 90 FPS. When a game begins to maintain 90 FPS OR starts rendering at less than 45 FPS, motion reprojection will turn off. Asynchronous rotational reprojection is enabled at all times."

"SteamVR Home and many other games that do not reliably hit 50-60 FPS on your PC will continue to have a poor experience with this mode."

@Secoda - I think if you are hitting close to 90 you get the green block on the left. Light blue - CPU constrained, Dark Blue - GPU constrained, and Red only comes on when you are below the 45 and not reprojecting…

80% of the time both light and dark blue are on for me. I do see red with my hardware when I look at other player spawned planes. Usually more than 1 player plane in my view will kick me red on the ground. No issues when in the air. (less polygons with no gear, doors, or tires to draw)
