Tracer1 Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 (edited) Hey Guys, I'm finally working on learning the Countermeasure system on the F-14 but am noticing some odd behavour. I am thinking I'm doing something wrong before assuming it is a bug so wanted to ask on here. I did a search but came up with nothing so am posting this. In the mission editor I loaded 10 flare and 50 chaff. In the RIO seat I set L10 = F, R10= C, L20 = C, R20=C Set the counters to flare = 10 and chaff = 50. Fired off the 10 flares. I then set L20 to F for a test and was able to fire another 20 flares. I only loaded 10 but was able to fire 30. Can I ask did I do something wrong/ what is the proper way of loading chaff and flares? I looked at the manual but it just seemed vague to me. (and if I load the 10 flares into either L20 or R20, I then launch 20 flares even though it seems I have 10 loaded) Also another issue , I reset and selected the same 10 flare loadout and did the above test, then I went to outside view and fired off from the Pilots seat about 6 flares then all of a sudden it started dropping chaff all while I was still in the F2 outside view, no setting changes. Has anyone else had these kind of issues with the Countermeasure system. Edited April 13, 2019 by IronMike
Super Grover Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 There was a bug in the code which loads mission editor settings. It's corrected now in the open beta branch. However, a part of the behaviour which you observed is still valid. Imagine a situation in which you loaded 60 flares and 0 chaff, and you don't use LAU-138. In this case, the correct settings for your ALE-39 are: L10 - F, L20 - F, R10 - F, R20 - F. You can always check what is the correct settings in your kneeboard. Now, you (as the RIO) use the chaff switch to release one chaff. It does nothing because no ALE-39 section is marked as chaff. Imagine that you don't change your loadout but you set L20 to C on your panel. You press the chaff switch again, and the system releases one flare. It's because the system is not aware of the actual loadout and it uses the settings dialled on the control panel. You commanded to dispense one chaff, but the only section marked in the programmer as containing chaff is L20, so the sequencer sends one release impulse to that section, and the dispenser ejects one of the cartridges loaded in that section. And all cartridges in that section are flares, so it releases one flare. Krzysztof Sobczak Heatblur Simulations https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/
