Jak525 Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 On the EW format the chaff and flare count only appear when the ALE-47 is ON rather than BYPASS, and yet the SA format shows it either way. Is this intentional or is one of them wrong?
CAPT_Kirkpatrick Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Fairly sure that's correct; ON indicated the ALE-47 controls releases, i.e dispense aft and forward start a programmed release BYPASS indicates the release is tied directly to the dispense switch, forward and aft release one flare/chaff respectively.
Tom Kazansky Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 I've always been wondering why there is no indication of chaff and flares while bypass is on. Is this really authentic?
Cytarabine Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 I think this is largely because bypass is an emergency mode (i.e. used when there has been a failure of normal countermeasure methods). Of course we use it probably a lot more than what it is intended because for quick flights I often can't be stuffed redefining my countermeasures programs (though for longer full missions I do). Now if only we had a data card that we could load these things into....
dorianR666 Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 i find it more questionable that you cant reprogram countermeassure on ground CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X GPU: AMD RX 580
Santi871 Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 i find it more questionable that you cant reprogram countermeassure on ground this is being worked on, but eventually the settings would just be loaded via the DTC
