New Aircraft

Recommended Posts

I am a ground pounder, and not a Jet Jockey. I am also getting old and losing some of my eye coordination, reflexes, and cognitive ability, so High Fidelity jet aircraft such as the F-18 are over my head. I tried for 3 months and had to return to low fidelity.

Are there any new low fidelity jets being planned? A low fidelity F-18? or something similar?

I can fly the TF-51. A good High Fidelity War Bird ground pounder like the P-47 I could handle.

New aircraft coming?

Don't forget us little people, :(

For WW2 birds and less complexity but excellent mechanics and options, try IL2 BoS, Moscow, Kuban, etc. Excellent dynamic campaign system. Check them out on youtube, sales give great value.

I am in DCS because I want a flight simulator. I do not want a game where I just fly around and shoot stuff up.

There is a P-47 in the pipeline. It was delayed because of the very reason you chose DCS World, and that has been well publicized by ED.

I can fully understand where you stand Skunk Cabbage. The FW-190 A8 will make a great ground pounder too, even if that wasn't this module's primary role.

The P-47 will be along pretty soon too I hope.

I tried Il-2 and War Thunder. Not interested in that sort of thing. I prefer real Flight Sims like DCS and xplane.

P-47 ?

That would be nice.

So would a Corsair with a Pacific Map. My Dad was in Marine Aviation Ordnance. 1st Marine, 5th Regiment. He loaded Corsairs with napalm on those historic short deliveries at Peleliu in 1944.

For actual "scope" of ED and 3rd party plans and on develop, check the "unofficial" Roadmap, I get put all info available about modules in coming (check my signature).

About WW2:

ED has Fw-190 A-8, Mosquito FB and P-47 in progress. Follow Me262 and other more War fighters. 2 WW2 maps has in progress.

Magnitude 3 has working on F4-U1 Corsair and has plans on a Iwo Jima map

I-16 Type 24 was release some week ago and surely can work on more.

Surely can be more WW2 aircraft incoming.

The upcoming MAC version of DCS should bring low fidelity Mig-15, Mig-21, F-86, F-5 and L-39 ... havent seen yet a firm release date tough.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have decided to go back and stay with the Su-25T until the new releases. Right now the P-47 is at the top of my list. It will give me an excuse to buy the Normandy Map too.

I would advice you to get the P-51D + Normandy and the DLC campaign "Blue Nosed Bastards". That is if you have 16 GB RAM, SSD and a decent grafics card.

Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.

I would love to. My problem is that I am retired and living on a very small pension. I must be very careful what I buy, and how I spend my money. I'll wait, and save up for the P-47.

Another retired guy here... I gave up motorcycles for just the reasons you mention - too many consequences for a slow decision. The F-18 does have a lot of clicks to get where you want. Last night I flew around for an hour just enjoying the view and was setting up to land when I noticed the velocity vector was stuck above the horizon. Flew an entire flight without moving the knob to NAV - felt like I'd left the turn signal on the whole time. That being said I find the jets simpler to fly once you get over the clickage part. An F-18 landing is a 120 knot crash onto concrete. If you want really easy flight get the Christen Eagle II or the L-39. They are both a kick in the butt and a bunch of fun. I'm looking forward to the 190 A-8 next month but it's still harder to fly than my F-18 - except for all the clicks... :smilewink:

Edit - if money is tight wait until the Christmas sales but new modules are rarely on sale so it might take a while.

You should try the Huey. After auto-start there's hardly any switches to memorize at all. You also don't need to be able to read the gauges, just keep the white lines from crossing the red line on Torque.

I believe ED is developing an entire new game that is all low-fi.

Well then try out the A-4E mod from the community. It does have a clickable cockpit, but it is a older and much simpler plane than most here.

The A-10C is an obvious choice. Way better than the P-47. It's easy to fly and it's slow. You don't need to learn every detail about every system. Just pick a few and go bomb stuff and have fun. You'll also love the gun. You could have fun just using it and nothing else.

I treat DCS as a Flight Simulator. I have no desire to just go out and bomb stuff.

Believe it or not, the Tomcat may be just up your alley. It's a capable ground-pounder, the systems aren't that complex, the HUD has large fonts, and it's not a twitch aircraft but rather one where being smooth is most important. Not to mention you have either AI or another human manage your systems!

EDIT: at first, the altimeter and airspeed indicator are tough to read, but being analog gauges you eventually learn to know your speed and angels just by looking at the needle placement.

I was just trying to help. You say you had a hard time with the F/A-18C. The Hog will be hard too but meanwhile, you can have fun with the plane while you're learning. Bombing stuff is what the plane is made for.

I learned the Hog and the Hornet, but it takes time. Giving up isn't an option with me. I'm 76.

How does that affect your flying? Honest question.

OK, if you have to know. Here are a few of the symptoms:

Pain areas: in the back or eyes

Pain circumstances: can occur in the back due to head nod or with eye movement

Tremor: can occur during precise movements, in the hands, or limbs

Muscular: cramping, difficulty walking, inability to rapidly change motions, involuntary movements, muscle paralysis, muscle rigidity, muscle weakness, problems with coordination, stiff muscles, clumsiness, muscle spasms, or overactive reflexes

Whole body: fatigue, dizziness, heat intolerance, poor balance, or vertigo

Sensory: pins and needles, abnormality of taste, reduced sensation of touch, or uncomfortable tingling and burning

Urinary: excessive urination at night, leaking of urine, persistent urge to urinate, or urinary retention

Visual: blurred vision, double vision, or vision loss

Sexual: dysfunction

Mood: anxiety or mood swings

Speech: difficulty speaking or slurred speech

Also common: constipation, depression, difficulty swallowing, difficulty thinking and understanding, flare, headache, heavy legs, numbness of face, rapid involuntary eye movement, sleep deprivation, tongue numbness, weakness, or difficulty raising the foot

Cognitive problems with reading and writing. Increasing loss of eye and hand coordination.

I have had it for 15 years, every year it gets progressively worse. MS never kills anyone. Most people with MS die of pneumonia. I have had pneumonia twice already. Yes, life is unfair. But I will fly in DCS as long as I am able.

Thank you for telling us. I had another motive. My daughter has it for about 20 years and I never really knew what she was going through.

My honest Respect !

Sometimes I am overwhelmed too by all those buttons and switches, procedures and rules but my excuses appear lame when I read the above.

Fly whatever fits your capabilities as long as you enjoy it your way :pilotfly:

On some days, when your daughter has flare ups, your daughter is going through Hell. On most days, I can't sit long, can't lay down long, or walk very far. I can deal with the pain and lack of mobility. But, it's the cognitive problems I find the most frustrating. On some days I can not read or write at all. I now have terrible short term memory. I can learn something one day, and forget it the next. That's why I have not been able to master any DDI's or complex digital displays. My IQ has dropped from College Masters level to around 9th grade. I can fly the Su-25T and use it to drop unguided munitions. I am struggling with the guided munitions. I can also fly the TF-51. I'll save up to buy the P-47 or Corsair. I am sure there are others out there who have even more limitations than I do, who are still trying to fly in flight sims. Anyway, DCS sure beats lousy TV. :pilotfly:
