Did I give up too easy?

Recommended Posts

I just built a new PC but I am not here to talk about that. I am here to talk about my OLD PC.

I built the new one because I thought upgrading the old one for DCS was a futile effort.

However now I am not so sure.

Here are the specs for my OLD one.

Intel Core i7-3770 Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.4GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W BX80637I73770 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000

ASRock Z77 Pro4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10

Thermaltake W0116RU 750W Complies with ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V version SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Toshiba Memory America Toshiba OCZ TR200 Series 2.5" SATA III 240GB Internal Solid State Drive (THN-TR20Z2400U8(CS) 2.5" THN-TR20Z2400U8(CS

NVIDIA GTX 1060 3 GIG.

Could this have been as simple as upgrading the graphics card to a 1080ti?

I need, I need, I need... What about my wants? QuickSilver original.

"Off with his job" Mr Burns on the Simpsons.

"I've seen steering wheels / arcade sticks / flight sticks for over a hundred dollars; why be surprised at a 150 dollar item that includes the complexities of this controller?! It has BLINKY LIGHTS!!" author unknown.

These titles are listed in the chronological order I purchased them.

I think I could have limped along on 1080 for another couple of years.

Thank you for the response.

Well anyway, would simply upgrading the 1080ti work for 1080p?

This answer to that is highly dependent on the personal preferences. I would say ' 1080ti is not necessary'. The 1070 was performing excellently for me (specs see sig sans gpu, of course) for 1080p @60Hz.

Yeah , a 1080ti would be overkill for 1080p . The 1070 that replaced my 1060 3gb allowed me to run 1.5 SSAA in addition to 2x MSAA , all but eliminating shimmer . It ran a little more fluidly at a locked 60 hz as well (TiR) . It has also proven to be an effective VR gpu at CV1 resolutions .

But buyer's remorse is not called for , as the new pc will better run higher resolution pancakes and VR headsets , as well as provide future-proofing . Following every optimisation that ED makes , will be renewed pressure to add performance-robbing features that the community demands . That new pc will stand you in good stead .

I am going to have to upgrade my motherboard/cpu/ram soon , and i assure you i cannot afford it :) DCS is a hard drug , particularly in VR .
