[NO BUG]SARH missiles and chaff

Recommended Posts

Something I was wondering if you could look into @NineLine @BIGNEWY was odd behavior with missiles and chaff. It seems they are acting as a decoy source long after they should already be just about stopped and as such should be filtered out by PD. Yet in the example below I fired a missile right as my first ate chaff (which in this case I really think it should not have) and by the time it came alive the chaff was already well behind the enemy jet yet my just fired missile ate the same chaff bundle as the first missile. +1:41 into the tacview and track

At 1:41 the first missile begins (at that exact moment) to pull hard towards the thrid chaff bundle this bundle is already a plane length behind the mirage and imo should not have decoyed the AIM7, to decoy a PD missile requires a near steady stream of chaff and luck that the missile will track on the chaff stream coming out the back of your jet and not you, additionally you need to get lucky that the host radar does not keep tracking you because if it does the second the bit of chaff the AIM-7 tracked on enters the velocity gate it will be filtered out leaving the missile able to reacquire the target (AIM-7m's have lock on after launch LOAL which mean it can reacquire a target midflight).

Continuing on at this moment though my second missile has just come off my plane and has not yet even activated its motor let alone AP/Seeker head. The moment it does 1:42.5 it procedes to track onto the thrid chaff bundle which is now several hundred feet behind the mirage if not more.

(also happens to other missiles, infact all other radar guided missiles)

I could provide multiple tacviews for this as well in both singleplayer and multiplayer if needed.

SARH and ARH missiles will eat chaff thats 5+ seconds old, with unbroken lock and in look-up scenarios. While chaff working as a "radar flare" is absolutely fine, it would be nice if the duration of effectiveness could be toned down a bit.

SARH missiles that have been decoyed also seem to have zero chance of reacquiring once the chaff expires, even if the host radar continues tracking the correct target within their field of vision.

Hi

Tracks and tacview will help.

I will ask some ED team members to take a look

Hello,

I have spoken to the team about this.

Chaff implementation will be looked at in the future and improved.

I do not have a time frame for this.

Thanks
