Is there a way to get a real replay ?

Hey there, I am struggling with carrier landing with the F18.

I am doing fine in training missions, however when I fly in DCE campaign missions I become the bolter champion: even if everything seems fine, I miss the wires and have to redo till when I quit out of frustration.

I would like to see what's wrong, problem is that a reply with the usual track file of a similar (long) mission would be too long and my aircraft would anyway crash before (as I often fly low).

Short missions as said are not a problem.

So is there any way to get a proper reply of the last few minutes of a 1 or 2 hours mission ?

I would look into recording . Nvidea offers it in their default software , and i think Win 10 "game mode" does as well . Be aware that you can't change POV , and you must keep up with housekeeping to avoid huge losses of ssd/hd space . You may be able to see what you're doing wrong from the cockpit POV when purely spectating . Odds are good you're bouncing a hook due to last-second pitch changes :)

Thought about using Nvidia stuff, problem is I'd like to see what happens outside.

I am on slope, AoA is OK (or at least I see a circle), everything seems OK, however when I try an instant action/training mission I always land, while when I came back after a long DCE mission I'm literally unable to catch any wire.

Sounds so weird that I want to check, and in the cockpit everything seems OK.... So I need to check from outside...

Anyway if there is no possibility, I will get back to the Tomcat and stick with it .. at least with it I can reliably land both in training missions as well as after a DCE Campaign mission...

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but you might want to take a look at Tacview.

When it comes to minute details, like why the hook didn't catch a wire, Tacview probably can't show you exactly what went wrong. But you should still be able to judge your approach, speed, glidepath, and probably AoA, using Tacview, so you can compare the different situations and see where the differences are.

And in any case, Tacview is just an amazingly cool tool for every DCS pilot anyway.

Do you check your weight (in the Checklist page) against maximum carrier landing weight ?

This could be the discriminant difference.

Not sure where there would be a difference between training and campaign mission landings. Other than weight difference.

Also, you can speed up the time in DCS. I just don't recall what key that is off the top of my head. Maybe that'll help?
