Wingtip Vortice Wake?

Steve Gee

Recommended Posts

In NineLine's press release for this week, there's this entry:

"Initial, work-in-progress wing tip vortices wakes was added. This must be enabled from Options"

I seen the Wake Turbulence checkbox. Anyone seen the Wing Tip Vortice Wake one? I've been through every panel in Options and I can't find it. Or are they combined as part of the wake turbulence effects?

That's all I could find. Wondering where this missing setting is, or did it not make it in this update?

The jetwash is blatantly there: I've put an SU33 behind a tanker, whose wingtip vortices were visible. When I was right in those vortices, the Aircraft was heavilly rolled to one side.

I think that now the propeller wash is there, too: look at this experiment that I carried out in the past versions of DCS without noticing changes when changing the angle of the elevators:

EDIT: Sorry, I must have remembered wrongly, because we already had the effect:

I just tried it in the F18 by flying in the wing tip votices of the KC-135MRP and felt nothing as did my wing-man. I thought it maybe like other game play options and must be enabled/disabled in the mission editor, but see nothing about wake turbulence in the options.

I didn't try the KC-135 yet but i did AAR in the F-18 and had the wake turbulence behind the S-3, IL-76, also behiind An-26, Mig-29 in an F-18 and FW-190A8, can't remember if the B-17 had this effect. In the FW-190A8 behinf the Antonov i was surprised by it, got rolled 90° before i could react :joystick: :D

Only one option in the gameplay tab to enable it.

I've enabled it in gameplay and found in the f18 that it DOES push the AC around quite a bit behind the tanker (tried S3 and KC135MPRS) and in BFM when I have crossed behind my target.

If you aren't being affected but have the wake turbulence box checked, then it may still be WIP and not work the same for everyone.

Unknown, neon76 & nagilem

Were you guys finding the effect in multiplayer or only in single player? I can feel it in SP, but not MP.

It's already been confirmed that the option does nothing atm.

Seems to be all wrapped up in one package "Wake Turbulence". This seems to also include prop wash from the WWII planes (haven't tried them all yet).

@pimp - if you mean the wake turbulence box, then it does enable wake turbulence behind aircraft in SP at least. Where was this confirmed?
