it came out yesterday. Unless Yo-Yo releases anything the community will have to make them, which will take a little while.

On AO, I was flying the A8 and full power, turning inside the turn of a Spitfire at 88% RPM. Took a while before I caught him.

The A8 was not a genuine dogfighter like the 109 but a very good bomber interceptor at altitudes of around 6000m. You should use it as a dogfighter only when having a superior number of friends around, otherwise, stay away from fighting.

Does anyone have charts or data on which plane, the FW 190 or the Spitfire, climbs faster, and by how much?

So far it seems to me to be a decent fighter when used to its strengths e.g. boom and zoomer.

Verus the Spitfire MkIX it has good top speed, excellent dive, roll, armament and can take a hell of a beating.

Actually, just in general, does the Spitfire climb harder than the Anton?

As far as I know, the FW-190 was more of an energy fighter than a turn fighter, whereas the Spitfire was a turn fighter.

So better use the FW-190 as a boom and zoom fighter.

It dives better that most other WW2 aircraft (apart from the P-47) so if You have the altitude and get attacked from the rear - roll and dive.

It was also only better at lower altitudes, cause it lost quite some performance at higher altitude, that why the FW-190D9 was developed.

Be that as it may, the DCS Spit has the Merlin 66, which outperforms the BMW801 slightly at all alts. Not sure if the A8 outruns the spit on the deck.

Also, the A8 has MW50, which gives a 15-25km/h boost at top speed(not sure which alt). Dunno if this equalizes the performance advantage of the Spit.

We need Lancasters and B25s.

Fighting Spits will be tough business. At altitude, it’ll be a slaughter.

You can slowly crawl away from it on the deck.

No the A8 doesn't have MW-50.

Various German websites say it had MW50, though not all A8s had them. Certain Rüstsätze included nitrous oxide injection for high alt performance boost(not the same as MW50, if I understand correctly).

This pic is directly from wikipedia. Like I said, Dunno if it’s correct or not.

Just dropping this here:

“Increased emergency power: Starting from July 1944 all Fw 190 A-8 aircraft will be equipped with "increased emergency". By overridding the supercharger boost regulator, boost pressures are increased at take-off and emergency power in low supercharger setting from 1,42 ata to 1,58 ata and at the high supercharger setting from 1,42 to 1,65 ata. Thus an increase of speed up to 13.6 mph (22 km/h) is obtained with low supercharger operation and up to 15.5 mph (25 km/h) with high supercharger operation. The maximum operating time for increased emergency is limited to 10 minutes due to thermal reasons.”
