Cold_Steel Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 Hi all, Wondering if someone can share some light on whether or not I’m doing this right. I have read around the forums and that has helped me get to where I am today so thanks all for the info. So my questions. 1 - am I correct in assuming that each aircraft has its own set of controller profiles in Settings for both keyboard and Hotas. If so then you need to custom map for each aircraft? 2 - I have for each aircraft set up my KB bindings and HOTAS bindings is there a way to save both profiles or do you HAVE to right click each Inputs column and save them individually as a custom profile. 3 - following on from 2 do you then have to assign BOTH your Hotas profile and KB profile each time you change planes? Or do it once and save it once like a new Master etc. I wish you could just press a one save all button for kB and Hotas profile in one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yurgon Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 1 - am I correct in assuming that each aircraft has its own set of controller profiles in Settings for both keyboard and Hotas. If so then you need to custom map for each aircraft? Correct, each aircraft has its own set of controls. I'm not aware of any way to quickly update one aircraft with the assignments of another. ED and the 3rd parties try to provide default controls for some of the most popular joystick/HOTAS, but those are only available for some of the modules (the A-10C being the first, with almost perfect key bindings for the TM Warthog). 2 - I have for each aircraft set up my KB bindings and HOTAS bindings is there a way to save both profiles or do you HAVE to right click each Inputs column and save them individually as a custom profile. That's fairly simple. All the assignments are stored in Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\ To be more precise, the default/core assignments are stored in the game's installation directory, and they should not be changed there. In Saved Games, DCS saves so called "diffs", meaning the difference between the default assignment and the individual stuff configured by the user. There have been cases in the past where the default assignments were changed by ED or the 3rd parties, and all assignments had to be re-done for a module, but that is actually very rare. Long story short, if you make a backup of Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input, you can copy this back to a new DCS installation and you're good to go. It also works to copy this from stable to OpenBeta, or the other way around, if you have both installations in parallel (it's officially recommended to NOT do this, but I've never found any problems with it; your mileage may vary). 3 - following on from 2 do you then have to assign BOTH your Hotas profile and KB profile each time you change planes? Or do it once and save it once like a new Master etc. I don't understand the question. What do you mean by "changing planes"? You can switch between different aircraft in singleplayer or multiplayer missions, and DCS will always load the joystick and keyboard assignments for the aircraft you're currently controlling, so no problems there. If you install a new module, you'll have to do all assignments from scratch, or restore your backup.
Cold_Steel Posted June 11, 2019 Author Posted June 11, 2019 Thanks for your replies - some good insight there. Some stuff I’m already doing which is good to know and some stuff I’m missing. Cheers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
