SA-5 : Any updates?

For sure, the job done by ED during the last months is magnificent and what is to come is also a very good sign but it is true that the update of certain vehicles and planes as well as the arrival of projects announced since a very long time (SA-5, KS-19,...) are long overdue.
ED has already announced that some airplanes should be updated during 2021 and that some new vehicles should also come in the following months.
I hope that this will be confirmed because it is excellent news...and essential to improve an even more realistic immersion.
The work done on the latest vehicles like the ZSU-57-2, the BTR-80A and the T-72 BM3 is just breathtaking and we hope to see further achievements in the coming months.

To be continued...

What's the current status on the SA-5? I think it should have fairly high prio given it is a much needed asset and SAM system that can be used on most maps and bring great value to most missions.

Pretty sure the only answer we'll get is that they're still working on the FDM.

But I'm still hoping we can see more of a complete set of components for the SA-5. While it would be a lot better than nothing at all, I think it would be a shame if we only got the FCR and a launcher.

I can't say for ED's SA-5, but I can try to squeeze in some SA-2/S-300 support vehicles and props in the next HighDigitSAMs mod release if you want. I could even add our SA-5, although the FM is still a SFM for testing purposes.

Awesome stuff! Though I'm till holding out hope that we can get this stuff in the base game, though your mod does look really nice.

Hell yeah! SFM is still a lot better than no SA-5 at all.

@LetMePickThat absolutely loving the Highdigit SAMS mod!

I pushed and pushed to get the scud released even with no missile FM as at least a static and eye candy to death and destroy, not sure why we can’t do that with the SA5 or the sa2 trailers.

Any support / logistics equipment especially the SA5 you would release would be awesome ! Really looking forward to it.

really can add depth and aspects to our IADS sites. Especially any fixed bunkers, generators and loading equipment.

thanks again for your mods and time, they are appreciated!

Vega Info I thought was interesting, along with site layout

Sa-5 is an interesting missile to put FM on due to the engine thrust profile. It has 30ish thrust profiles, matched with flught profile selected at launch based on target params.

For close in targets you'll get full thrust direct to target. On long range it will do boost sustain with a massive loft.

Not sure how ED are going to tackle it. I know other sims have selected a middle ground for thrust and guidance gains for middle of the envalope engagement

More statics this week and still no SA-5, at least the static.

Please just release it (early access) and let the community figure out a stop gap mod for the FM till ED makes one.  At least it will give us something to bomb in the meantime.

ED has no issues releasing other things early access.

But then people moan that released it in an unfinished state....... Though I will say the lack of it being done yet is a shame, especially since teased it to us but oh well.

Interesting, the Tin Shield search radar which was added in the previous patch as 19J6 has now been relabeled as SA-5 SR. Curious decision, as it has a detection range which is only about half the SA-5 maximum engagement range.

Which is baffling to me.

The 5N59/36D6/19Zh6/ST-68U (how many flipping designations do you need) [Tin Shield A], is associated with the S-300 system, though has seen use as a general purpose EWR (with the 5N64 [Big Bird] being its direct successor), not the SA-5...

According to what I can find online, the search/acquisition radars associated with the SA-5 should be the 5N84A (P-14F) [Tall King C] and the PRV-13 [Odd Pair]/PRV-17 [Odd Group] for height-finding.

Of course, none of these are present in DCS, though both the P-14 and 5N69 would make for great Cold War EWR/GCI RADARs and they both have plenty of range.

This makes absolutely no sense. TIN SHIELD for the SA-5? What in the Ace Combat is this?

When I saw TIN SHIELD go in I immediately jumped into the editor and tried to use it instead of BIG BIRD for an SA-10 and now I know why it didn't work. I can only offer several theories.

1. They don't want to bother 3D modeling the massive TALL KING. Maybe the LODs won't look good being how it's so spindly vs the TIN SHIELD. Or it won't sit right on even moderately uneven ground. Or perhaps ODD PAIR/GROUP are the issue. Maybe one of them exceeds some kind of engine limit with it's size/poly count/animation/scale/who-knows-what.
2. They'd have to figure out how to get ODD PAIR/GROUP to track the active target correctly. It can't just sit and spin or rock back and forth. It should rotate to track the active target SQUARE PAIR is looking at, or at least be close. I don't think any other system does this between two vehicles, and might not be possible in engine, so they have cheated.

3. Some kind of Intellectual Property issue.

Either way.... seriously? TIN SHIELD?

SPOON REST when?

It is wrongly named. It will be used with SA10. It is already reported, saw it somewhere. Also I am pretty sure I saw pics with Tall King being developed.

EDIT: found it: https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/278213-tin-shield-radar-incorrectly-named-as-sa-5-search-radar/
