Oil In The Water SP & CO Campaign

Recommended Posts

Great campaign! Really enjoying it.

one issue I’m having is with Mission 12. I’ve flown it probably 20 times and can’t seem to “beat” it. I knock out the SAM radar with the Harm missile and then drop my cluster bombs on the factory defense (usually not too much of an impact). Then wingman and I take care of the F-5’s and incoming Mig-29’s.

At that point, all of my guys have dropped their bombs on the factory and head back. My wingman and I exfil the area. I land back on carrier and end mission but then have to replay it because it hasn’t been passed. What am I missing? What actually signals the mission accomplished for this one?

thanks!!

There are two objectives for the mission. You get 30 points for Colt 1 completing their strike, which is measured by one specific Silkworm launcher being destroyed. Then you get 20 points if at least one member of Colt 1 flight survives to leave Iran.

My guess is Colt 1 isn't hitting the target for some reason, though that happening 20 times in a row is odd. It always worked reliably for me in play testing, but I'm thinking I need to build a more reliable system for measuring when Colt 1 has hit the target. Can you take a screenshot of the target area after Colt 1 has finished their strike? Or save a track of the whole mission?

New version, with new clouds!

Oil In The Water version 2.7 **REQUIRES** DCS version 2.7 (that's a happy coincidence), which for now means you need to be on Open Beta.

2.7 Changelog:

-All missions updated with new clouds.

-LIGHTENING replaced with ATFLIR in all relevant missions.

-All mission scoring updated: now if you end the mission without being shot down and select END MISSION you will advance to the next mission in the campaign regardless of if you completed your objectives. If you wish to immediately try the mission again select FLY AGAIN, if you wish to come back and try the mission again later select CLOSE and confirm that your progress will be lost. If you are shot down without completing any objectives you will be forced to fly the mission again.

-Missions 10 and 11 updated to add new AAA barrage fire.

-Mission 12 updated with a new, hopefully more reliable, trigger for the strikers completing their objective.

I have not taken the time to playtest every mission again, so it's possible some of the weather I selected will make the missions harder than they should be. If something seems dumb, let me know!

Both the new HS and CS versions start with the plane in the air instead of on the carrier. Does anybody else have this issue?

Hmmmm, didn't see that in any of the missions I tested, which mission are you having trouble with?

Do you own the Super Carrier module?

Nice work! I only checked mission 02 whcich twisted my nerves the most before. Now it is much more playable. Maybe because better working radar, maybe you changed something with enemy skills, I haven't check.

Ii is still not so easy (I was repeating it 5-6 times). What is more sad about AI, a huge factor of success depends on them, especially our wingman. Sometimes he has an actions like "idiot" as he had before update and finishes with 2 missiles between his eyes, but sometimes performs most of work and we haven't got much to do. Let's hope it will change in some part of time.

Clouds are of course amazing!

Please help! I was on Mission 12 but I went back and lost where I was up to, so it put me back on Mission 11.

I tried to update the lua but cocked it up royally and now I’ve lost my whole logbook!

I did a full windows system rollback 24 hours but it didn’t rollback the logbook for some reason. I’m sorry I know this is a general query not a OITW campaign query but wondered if anyone knew any workaround to find my old logbook?

ps always save your logbook before trying to edit 😞

this was my fav campaign BTW Bunny.

Make a copy of the logbook, and delete it or just rename it. Then when you will get a new empty one, then you can compare the two, and then sort out the corruption.
Or many just post it here, and somebody might help you.
Cheers!

I have huge difficulty with mission 3, I already tried it 4 times but I can't make it. I think the big problem is not in the mission but DCS bug which alerts ai when amram is lunched even in TWS.

Since I prefer BVR this makes this mission very hard and doesn't help I had a break from DCS and for now, I am terrible in bfm, and when it does go well some other things go wrong like wingman not listening to commands or get easy shout down etc...

Also for some reason on DCS user files it doesn't show this campaign being updated you need to check details and only in the description you can see that it was updated.

Yah, some people seem to have a lot of trouble with that mission. I've always found it pretty easy. If you can splash the two MiG-29s right away the rest of the mission is a turkey shoot. The state of the Hornet radar right now certainly does not help, but I tend to favor STT in most circumstances anyway.

The wingman can be a bit stupid sometimes. Make sure you're transmitting on the correct frequency, and then make sure the wingman acknowledges the call. If he doesn't respond with "Two: Roger. Two: Engaging bandits" then resend the command until he does.

In what sense? Are you referring to the supported game version in the file listing? That hasn't been updated with an option to display DCS World 2.7 yet so there's nothing I can do about it.

No I mean when I search on user files with filtri camping and hornet it doesn't show it was updated it stil say the last update was 3.11.2021. You need to check (open) details and even then you only see it was updated from yours notes. I was actual lucky I noticed otherwise I would be manually editing/updating missions.

That's the date the file was originally uploaded, not the date it was last updated. I have no control over that field.

Hi,

Mission 4.

It's impossible to lock the boats in movement witn ATFLIR.

No difficulty to find them with radar in SEA MODE, but I tried everything to lock with IR function but nothing makes there !!!!!!

I created a mission to prove if lock a boat in movement worked, and this walks well, but not in this mission.

Yah, ATFLIR Auto mode against sea targets seems to be pretty spotty right now, some kinks need to get worked out. You should be able to attack them with a slaved track in Radar SEA mode though.

Not sure what's up with mission 3, I can't get any of the aircraft to show up on the radar, including the Mig 29s. I've double checked I'm not doing something wrong e.g. incorrect elevation, we both are heading straight on at high altitude, etc.

Even in ACM with visual I can't get a lock, the only thing that works is the Aim 9s.

I have the same problem in mission 5, I wonder if it’s an 18 problem, but I tried a generic mission created some bogeys and was able to lock them up fine…

Just tried it on the new 2.7 Stable, which should be the same as Open Beta and didn't have any trouble. Picked them up at about 50nm.

After months of sandboxing around in the Hornet, I finally started a campaign and chose OitW as my first.  I just finished the second mission, completed both primary and secondary objectives and splashed a F-5E.  Didn't have to tank and ended up with a cut pass on recovery :D.  I'm having a blast.  Thanks for the great work @Bunny Clark!

Both variants of the campaign have new versions published.

Version 2.8:
-Adjusted all chaff and flare loads to 60/60
-Eliminated all single-missile AMRAAM loads on wing stations since they're silly now.
-Changed Mission 14 to use SLAM-ER.
-Changed Mission 5 co-op mission to have the wingman use the human weapon load rather than the stupid AI weapon load.
-Fixed a few single player missions that were accidentally saved with the co-op versions.

-Set supported game in User Files to DCS World 2.7.

Great campaign by the way, just getting started and already loving it!

Links on the first page take you to the User Files for each version, both of those have been updated. Hit Download and you'll get 2.8.

I've just played Mission 02 and realy like your campaign so far. If the missions maintain that quality throughout the campaign, it can definately compete with some of the paid ones. Still i would like to mention some suggestions. What comes to my mind is the Mission Planner. Imo you should hide much more units there. I appreciate the fact you're not showing enemys on the F10 map, but since i could see everything in the mission planner (even the later activated Iranian fighter reaction) there wasn't realy anything surprising during the mission. I for example only show mission critical stuff in the planner (such as known SAMs in the AO or airborne BARCAP) but never show later activated stuff or fighters that are meant to scramble during the mission. Also i never show allies in the planner, except they're part of the mission (i.e. your own escort or a 2nd Strike Package). Imo this keeps the mission planner clutter free and the mission a bit more thrilling. Not realy an issue, but maybe something to consider...

When i shot down the last of the Mi-8 in mission 02, i recieved both messages that the helicopters have left the area and that all helicopters are down at the same time. I'm assuming this is related to the trigger b/c as soon as the last Mi-8 is killed, they technically also have left the trigger zone. I'm always putting a "unit alive" condition in tandem with "out of zone" to avoid exactly this. Hope this was constructive..

Nonetheless realy well done and great ideas in terms of mission content. A very big thanks for your effort and for sharing your work!!

Came back to this campaign after a month or two off, and just kicking off Mission 12. Something very odd is going on. The AI Hornets  taking off on all the CATS are basically launching and pitching up, then just stalling into the sea?! I've tried twice now and the same issue. I'm running latest 2.7 OB with the Hotfix 2.7.4.9847.

Anyone else had this issue?

Thanks for this. I generally don't bother with the mission planner, as I have no need to when I'm testing missions, and hadn't noticed. That will be cleaned up in an update soon.

This has been a channeling one to get to work reliably since there's two groups that need to be either dead or ran away. I've come up with a new way of scripting it that I hope will be more reliable. I'll push an update out once I've had a chance to play test it.

Well that's weird. It's almost certainly a DCS issue, I'll see if I can reproduce it.
