Given that the only English airfields currently modelled were all only used by the RAF I'd like to see a few of the 9th Air Force bases added personally.

I understand that ED/Ugra have too limited resources/scope to add every airfield that actually existed to the south coast of UK (there'd be 4x as many as currently) but to have couple of the P-47 bases that existed between Southampton and Bournemouth would be a nice touch.

As for now, we have data for most of the existing fields - of which Chailey is one - to get their layouts correct and it seems a shame that for a simulator that hitherto has prided itself on getting this aspect correct in the larger details on every other map, that they resort to generic layouts for the Normandy UK airfields.

Have found a copy of a period map of RAF Chailey as it was during the time represented by the Normandy Map.

I present this on the outside chance that an accurate representation of this field could be included as part of the overhaul of this map.

Anymore details on this, like hangar types used there, looks like the ones marked 7(?) are being set as hangars in the sim, I would like to check that against what was there. Thanks (I am still looking as well)

Thanks NL.

Checking through my copy of Spit & Polish: RAF Polish Squadrons Fight Back from Chailey, Sussex in Support of the D-day Operations of 6th June 1944

I can find a single solitary photo:

I suspect that's an Extra Over Blister.

From what information I can glean there should be 4 total, each located at the 6. reference on the airfield plan; see marked version below.

That seems to be it.

Even the British ALGs were pretty spartan affairs. Accomodation was entirely tented. It must be remembered that these airfields, as well being places to help locate some of the vast number of air units a useful distance from France, were also being used to help acclimatise the tactical units of the RAF 2nd TAF and US 9th AF to the austere lifestyle they would have to come to expect post invasion, particularly those who may have, up until 1943-44 become accustomed to comfortable heated mess areas, warm brick billets and a cosy bar...
