It's a known issue, the DDI symbology is displayed on top of the protective glass instead of the CRT screens themselves. This creates all sorts of weird viewing issues like the one you describe, if you look at the DDIs from a steep angle. AZ/EL is just the most visible one. The level of graphical fidelity ED has achieved is unmatched.
