Campaign updates

Reflected

Recommended Posts

Hi Reflected,

since the last update it isn't possible to start the Big Show Campaign as right at the start there is an aircraft parked on the taxiway in front of a shed. As soon as the mission starts a vehicle drives directly into this aircraft and explodes blocking the taxiway. So I can taxi around it but the all the AI are stopped so the mission cannot advance.

Hope you can help,

Thanks Ibis.

Thanks for the report. Yes, it’s the result of the problem I mentioned before. The fixed version is already in ED’s hands.

The quick fix today has solved the "player's aircraft explodig" kinda problems, but since then, I revised all units and parking spots, and submitted a more in-depth change to ED, where all units spawn where they should. I also moved the static objects further from the spawn points, and the cherry on top is a performance increasing trick for big bomber formations. I hope it will be released soon. Thanks for your patience!

Hi All,

I have a few dozen P-51 Mustang skins in the user files section. Since I made them, I learned a thing or two about texturing as well as how PBR works, so I realized they weren't as good as they could be. Therefore, I updated all of them:

- I fine tuned some of the colors to be more realistic

- I adjusted the albedo of black and white. Black was too dark, white was too light. Now they look more natural.

- I improved the weathering layers, corrected some texture errors in the template

- Most importantly, now all metal surfaces behave as fully metallic, and I played with the roughness to achieve a natural look. Likewise, all painted surfaces are now fully dielectric.

- I also learned that most part of the P-51's wings and rudder was painted with DuPont aluminum lacquer, then polished. Of course, this paint eroded with time, but it was not fully dielectric to begin with (like on the stock skins), it had mostly metallic properties, and the difference between the lacquer and unfinished aluminum was more subtle.

Without further ado, you can download my Mustang skins here. I updated the files, but didn't bother taking new screenshots. Here are a few pictures to give you an idea. I sent the skins to ED so that my campaigns get updated for you automatically.

My new F-14 Tomcat campaign is nearing completion, so I'll let you in on another secret: graywo1fg, the voice of Jester kindly agreed to help me out with some voice overs. So, while playing the campaign, you will not only hear the stock callouts from the backseat, but he will participate to some of the conversations, and be an active part of the missions.

I have more good news: the voice of the player, that is you, will be feefifofum. His voice sounds soo cool through the radio, exactly my idea of a fighter pilot.

Here's an example below. The reason why you need to hedge hop through the valleys, well, that's a secret I won't let you in on. You'll find it out when you play the campaign ;)

More Sabre updates: I tweaked the Hunters over the Yalu campaign skins a bit more, after I learned that the center section of the Sabre's wings was not bare metal, but painted and polished - like on the P-51 Mustang. I updated my skins accordingly, and submitted them to ED. So hopefully when the next update comes, the skins will look like this for those of you who own the campaign.

The March 4 OB update contained many fixes for my WWII campaigns, it made all of them fully 2.5.6 compatible. No more spawn issues or collisions - I hope. If you do experience something strange, please let me know, I'll jump on it right away.

On top of the fixes, all of my campaigns got my updated P-51 Mustang skins. I hope you'll like them :)

Dear Friends,

I promised that I would give you an update about my upcoming projects. I'm not giving any timelines, because it all depends on DCS updates and new modules, and I don't know any more about these than any of you does. Half a year ago, I thought my Tomcat campaign would be released by now, but we're still waiting for the carrier and the "A" model - just to give you an example. So, without further ado, these are the projects you can count on in the upcoming year(s):

FEAR THE BONES!

I've mentioned this before, a fictional, cold war gone hot campaign for the F-14A Tomcat, set over the Black Sea in 1989. The campaign is 99% complete, it's just waiting for the required moduels to be released. It will use the SC, but I'm planning to include an alternate version using the Stennis/ Forrestal. You'll also be able to play it with a human RIO if you wish. I'm so excited about this one, I pushed my limits far beyond my previous works. It will be so heavily story driven that it will feel more like being the main character of Top Gun 2 as a miniseries than just flying a set of missions. Each carachter will have their own personality and you will know them by their names after a few missions. Oh, and I added a whole lot of easter eggs and pop culture references to give you that 80s feeling. Oh yeah, baby!

WOLFPACK

A historical campaign for the P-47 Thunderbolt and the new Channel map. I just finished the research phase of this one. I'm planning to recreate some missions flown by the 56th Fighter Group down to the smallest details. I have dozens of original combat reports and a few books, so you will re-live exactly whatever those brave young men went through in the spring of 1944 - as much as the simulation permits. No Hollywood action movie here, prepare to be a tiny part of a giant war machine.

HORRIDO!

After releasing "Jagdflieger" I got many messages asking for a similar campaign for the Fw-190. So once the channel map is out, I will start working on a sequel to Jagdflieger. I have some creative ideas for the missions, you'll see a great variety of them, not just dogfights and intercepts. It will make use of the versatility of the Anton.

G FOR GEORGIE

A semi-historical campaign for the Mosquito. You'll fly as the squadron leader of a Mossie squadron, piloting an aircraft called "G for Georgie", and carry out sorties based on real life events. It will be a bit of a mix of all kinds of missions flown by these aircrew. This is not realistic, as they would be specialized in one or the other, but that would make quite a dull campaign. So I chose to gather the most common mission types as well as the most thrilling ones and put them in the same bouquet. I've read a lot about the Mossie, and some of these sorties are beyond anything Hollywood could have come up with. You will see ;)

Of course I will keep polishing my current campaigns and updating them with new aircraft types as they get released (JU-88, P-47, Mosquito, B-26) . On a sidenote, I will be needing British, US and German voice actors for these projects, so if you feel like being a part of them, just shoot me a message.

Thank you for all the support, I really appreciate all the feedback, and I love hearing about your experience with my campaigns. Stay safe, and happy landings!

R

In "Fear the Bones!", my story driven F-14 campaign you will be expected to follow Navy procedures. Today I realized it's hard to remember everything by heart, so I made some diagrams that will appear on briefing and kneeboard panels to help you. You can see an example here. I can't wait to replace the Stennis with the SC and the Forrestal finally!

Dear friends,

With today's OB patch comes a major update to my campaigns as well. I updated all my WWII campaigns with the new WWII assets released last month. You'll meet JU88s, A-20s, bomb V-1 sites, U-boats and more.

On top of this, due to the severe FPS drop brought by 2.5.6, I fine tuned the heavier missions' performance. If you use the "Remove units" option right after spawn, you'll face/escort as few as 24 bombers instead of 72. That number has to run smoothly on any PC, even if you have an outdated one like me ;)

Another project is finally underway as well. Ever wondered what it must have felt like to be part of the 56th Fighter Group as they climbed toward the rendez-vous point on a withdrawal support Ramrod mission? According to Robert Johnson's book, the flights flew at a distance of 500 yards, and the squadrons kept a separation of 1500 yards. I must say it looks pretty epic, and makes you feel invincible. Right up to the point when 30 Focke Wulfs arrive and the melee begins.

In this campaign I'm not trying to come up with interesting mission ideas, and I'm not focusing on variety, nor balance. You'll not be the hero, you'll be a grain of sand in the desert. I'm recreating original combat reports to the word, and the outcome is eye-opening to say the least. There is a LOT of work left to do, but I'm really going to enjoy working on this one.

The 'Zemke fan'

On May 12th 1944, Hub Zemke came up with new tactics to sweep the area before the bombers. The 56th FG took off with 24 P-47s, then, after reaching a pre-designated point on the map, the flights fanned out on their assigned headings, thus covering an almost 180° area. If one ran into the enemy, the others would be close enough to assist.

This worked well to seek out the enemy, but it was not ideal for engaging the large formations that were so prevalent in the area that day. So on May 22nd, the 2nd Zemke fan set out with upgraded tactics. 48 ships took off, then the squadrons fanned out, each with 4 flights of 4 P-47s staying together.

These missions were a real pain in the neck to program in DCS, but the result is very interesting. Soon you'll also be able to fly both 'Zemke fans' as part of the legendary Wolfpack.

While some of my projects have been halted for various reasons - mostly waiting for new stuff to be released - I've had a lot of time to work on 'Horrido!', my FW-190 campaign. Progress has been really fast, and I'm happy to say it's almost complete. I'm just waiting for a few more voice over lines, then some final testing, and I'll send it right to ED. I'm very happy with how the missions turned out, I tried to be a little more creative with the storyline to make sure you are entertained from start to finish :)
