[Correct As Is] Canopy color?

ThorBrasil

Recommended Posts

The color of the canopy outside is yellow. Shouldn't it be yellow inside? I believe any pigmentation outside would change inside the canopy. Will this be corrected? Or is it like this in real life? Yellow outside and no color inside? :smartass::thumbup:

If the actual model is yellow. So in DCS it has to be yellow. Either make everything yellow, or remove the color from everything.

Just sad that there is not only 1 colour that is the right one... F-16 is like Burger King... Have it your way ;) And you always will find a plane that Looks like you want to have it.

If you take the color off. I will be happy. What can not is to have two colors. One external and one internal. Either it is all yellow or it removes the whole yellow. :music_whistling:

Sorry gentlemen but most of you are completly wrong. Have a Look at this article and scroll down to the section titled "Canopy Tinting".

https://www.usaf-sig.org/index.php/reference/41-research-material/82-f-16-viper-faq-stuff-you-wanted-to-know-about-the-f-16cd?fbclid=IwAR2KmDkm3o6DWc1kdh9RBXqfzhnOhrfY5Vz4p9lnoBsZLVLGCxxb8iHybMc

Take a close look at the photos included...Some of the Canopies are Yellow. Some are more Bluish, Some are Bluish and the Rear part is Yellowish...Some the Front is yellowish and the Rear is bluish/clear. They are all completely different. Plexiglass ages. And over the years different coatngs have been used for various reasons that changes the appearance of the canopies.

Now the fact they appear yellowish when viewed at from the outside and clear from the inside could be addressed. You could post THAT issue as a bug in the Bug Section. Personally I would wait until the Final textures are completed and released because the entire thing is a work in progress.

Everyone complaining the color is incorrect...

Sorry

Have you noticed some sun glasses look a certain color when you look at them as looking at someone wearing them. In other words from outside in. Then when you look through them it looks different. The same with rifle scopes. You see the coating from the outside but it looks clear to look through them.

Does this apply to the canopy?

I had orange googles. When you wear them, the world has an orange tint to it. But after a few minutes, your eyes will get used to it and you see the world just like normal. You take the googles off and then you see the normal world brighter than normal. Again, after a bit, you get used to it and it will appear normal.

I'd assume the same thing would happen with this canopy.

A guy did a clear canopy mod that’s available in the user files that looks really nice for those who prefer the clear.

Well, most folks prefer realism and I assume that ED did their homework when researching our F-16: the golden tint of the F-16 (and other airplanes) canopy is there for a reason:

"EA-6Bs have this is well - it shields the cockpit and crew from radiation. Gold is a very dense material with high conductivity, so even an extremely thin layer (so you can see through it) would already be effective. The gold coating would create a "Faraday cage" effect."

and

"The gold canopy prevents energy radiated at specific frequencies from passing through the canopy. Stefaan's comment about a Faraday cage is correct. On an EA-6B it serves to protect the crew from the radiation emitted by their own jamming pods. On an F-117 and F-16 it prevents radiation (from other sources) from reflecting off the interior cockpit structure."

and

"Have Glass is the code name for a series of RCS reduction measures for the F-16 fighter. Its primary aspect is the addition of an indium-tin-oxide layer to the gold tinted cockpit canopy. This is reflective to radar frequencies, while it may seem odd, adding a radar reflective coating actually reduces the plane's visibility to radar. An ordinary canopy would let radar signals straight through where they would strike the many edges and corners inside and bounce back strongly to the source, the reflective layer dissipates these signals instead. Overall, Have Glass reduces an F-16's RCS (radar-cross section) by some 15 percent."

Wait a minute,,,,,,,,,,,,

Dozens of people complaint,,,,, " (insert ptepeeve here) is NOT represented correctly and NOT realistic",,, here we have something which IS realistic ( worked on the F-16 for two years, Block 15's,,, yeah that long ago) and you people are complaining?

I don't even notice the "yellow" tint, only when looking from outside WHICH IS REALISTIC

OK, off soapbox,,,
