Netsk
Hi, I think an Arctic map similar to Janes F/A-18 would be awesome. I list the reasons below: - The dominance of the Arctic region is were today's superpower rivalry is heading. - Includes both Russian (including Russias most important naval base), NATO and Neutral territory. - Good environment for many of the DCS Aircraft such as F-16, F-5 (Norway), F/A-18C, MiG-21, Mi-8 (Finland) and Viggen, upcoming Bo-105 (Sweden). - Is sparsely populated, less time needed to be spent on building detailed cities. - Gorgeous scenery with Norways mountains and Finlands and Swedens forests and hills. xvii-Dietrich
+1e99 This would be my #1 choice for a new map. :) I think an Arctic map similar to Janes F/A-18 would be awesome. Totally agree with all the above reasons. Would like to add: The map contains plenty of water for carrier operations Road runways (e.g. Vuojärvi H/S (ref) ) Add to the F/A18, F16 and Viggen the Finnish MiG-21 and Mi8s. Also, the Swedish Bo105CBS (ref) Plus all those Soviet/Russian aircraft, of course! This is the region where NATO's Arctic Challenge Exercise takes place each year... the world's largest winter exercises. Lots of historical actions too... Winter War (Fenno-Soviet: somewhere at last to use those I-16s!) Continuation War (Fenno-Soviet) Norwegian campaign... incl. Narvik, perfect for the Mosquito!) German - Soviet front, incl. Op.Silverfox, etc. Kirkenes... one of the most air-raided towns ever U-Boat operations out of Harstad, Narvik, etc. Lapland War (Fenno-German conflict) Midnight sun I'd love to fly in kaamos conditions too! And, for the win... northern lights (no sim has ever successfully done that before... so there's a challenge!). Mind you, the suggestion has come up before. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3887246&postcount=13

Baco
OP : thats is the new free map. Im quite sure, cant tell why ;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I have to agree. Besides being Not Memory intensive, Very few large cities or actual towns, lots of sea for carrier ops. It did have WWII relevance. You have lend lease Spits for the Russians, And Bf 109 for Finland, the I16 also feels at home both sides, and maybe some Russian 3rd party can give us a Yak 3 or Yak 1, or even a mig 3.... Fits cold war, an modern what if´s and incredible for cold war gone Hot. Actually makes plenty of sense. And the landscape must be incredible... P.S. The only hint that it might not it, is that Was said nobody had guessed right and Murmansk was proposed somewhere... I truly hope it IS the free map. Or that is being made by Heatblur in secret... they did say at some point they were working on a Finland map for the Viggen...
Fisherman82
If this is not the free map, still I hope that ED picked up a long ago that this is something that seems to be very wanted. kievbsm
Hi, I think an Arctic map similar to Janes F/A-18 would be awesome. I list the reasons below: The Baltic Sea map in that case is not bad choice too :music_whistling:
drPhibes
This old demo of the ED terrain tools might be relevant: The area in question: https://goo.gl/maps/LGFZwskA5ps3Umc26 But it could of course be an area selected just for the demo, a cancelled project or something else. I guess time will tell...
Netsk
The Baltic Sea map in that case is not bad choice too :music_whistling: Too much highly built up areas to model, terrain is very flat. Bunny Clark
I'd love a DCS version of the Jane's F/A-18 map. Lots of fond memories. Maybe we could get Wags to recreate Valhalla. Wdigman
I look at the comments and really wish for a World map. It has been discussed in other forums, the shortcomings etc. Still here is a link for all to ponder the possibilities. https://www.pcgamer.com/fly-anywhere-in-the-world-in-the-impossibly-massive-microsoft-flight-simulator/ Also in another forum was the discussion of Subscription based pricing. I am so for it if it meant building a world map like above and then "Filling in" areas that need more detail. Foe example Berlin, you can have a Static map like Microsoft is planning (buildings will not have damage models, roads will not have intelligence to program paths for ground units) like the one above then then when the "Upgraded Berlin Map" comes out The city has all the dynamic range that one comes to expect from ED. Frontier areas can be modeled by satellite based modeling, then additional cities and areas are released later and faster. I like the Idea of an European map, Warsaw, Nato, Red and blue. A huge cold war campaign... 1983, we have most of the planes... Models of European cities in the 1940s and escort bombers to their targets in Germany. And don't get me started on the Pacific Theater for WWII. So yea, a world map as a base, streamed or in downloadable sections, then release areas of detail later and faster. Xilon_x
from the layout of the American and Russian bases I would choose the bases in the far north. so I would choose Franz Josef Land between 81 ° and 82 ° parallel where there are the best Russian strategic bases. while on the American territory the only base in Greenland thule or alaska. Franz Josef Land Edited November 22, 2019 by Xilon_x
Xilon_x
another solution would be to make only the cap shared by the various nations, that is the entire polar border.

Trettifire
I would absolutely love to see that. Airbases from Ørland and north, Sweden, Finland, and Russia all the way to the White Sea. Carrier operations coming in from the West... I can envision some awesome scenarios in this area. Add realistic weather for the seasons too, and you'll have a pretty challenging environment.
