Default voice device is not Windows Default audio/comms device

When I setup the voice chat for the first time, I selected my specific audio device (SoundBlaster Z) in-game, but the voice chat did not work at all.

Then I changed the in-game device settings to use "Default", game crashed without crash report.

Then I restarted the game, and changed the devices back to "Default", to my surprise, other person's voice came out of Oculus Rift (which is the 1st item below Default), but not the Windows default audio and default communications device (SoundBlaster Z).

Then when I changed in-game settings again to SoundBlaster Z while actively connected to a server with correct server-side voice chat setup, it worked.

So two problems:

1. The initial settings did not work.

2. The "default" is not Windows default, but appears to be whatever the first item in the in-game audio device list.

I'm not sure if this is related but since the first introduction of the Voice chat i have a problem with my audio in DCS.

Before that Voice Chat introduction DCS worked like that for me:

- start DCS without VR -> i got the sound through my 5.1 speakers

- start DCS with VR -> i got the sound through my Rift S

That was perfect for me.

Now, after the Voice Chat introduction DCS works like that for me:

- start DCS without VR -> sound through 5.1 speakers

- start DCS with VR -> sound through 5.1 speakers

- start DCS with VR AND set the Rift S as audio out instead of default -> sound through Rift S

But if i end DCS with this setting and start without VR i have no sound. If i go into the Audio settings within the mission and set it to default/speakers i have to "play" with the settings to hear anything and not all sounds play through the speakers, i have to restart DCS to have the "normal" sounds.

This is a little cumbersome, considering it worked perfectly before and i don't use Voice Chat because i fly SP most of my time.

When is anyone going to elaborate on the voice chat settings and their relationship to default devices in Windows.   It is very unclear how to set things up, and many of us are having the same issue.     Having to go into Audio settings each time we drop out of DCS and go back in.   Very frustrating in private multiplayer.

Donno what is going on. Tried it today after the patch and in MP one buddy could here me, the other not, I could not hear any of them. However connected to Discord and SRS I could hear them and they could hear me just fine. I could see my radio receiving something (green light) but no sound could be heard.

With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.

Same thing I've tried damn near everything. I'm very computer literate and very amateur musician so I've messed around with audio on my system front to back and helped others setup streaming PCs and banana meter. Short version: I know what the **** I'm doing.

1. Windows Exclusivity for audio devices - no effect

2. Disabling all audio devices save the one - no effect

3. Multiple Reboots between changes - no effect

4. Changing default comms devices - no effect

5. Swapping devices after DCS loads - no effect

6. Changing the volume of the mic before/during/after then rebooting DCS and/or system - no effect

No matter what I do, I cannot hear anyone in VoiP. I can connect, see the green light come on, hear the canned static, but I cannot hear anyone. I also get the volume lowering bug. Rather sporadically, they can hear me from time to time, but I can't hear them.

SRS, Discord, any other game and it's VoiP works just fine.
