Keyboard commands printout?

Recommended Posts

I am new to DCS and want to buy the Hornet. Is there a printout page of all the keyboard commands? I have found the page for the Su25 which I will use to learn how to start but would like to make a print out for the FA-18.

Thank you,

You can export the commands of any DCS aircraft, using the "Make HTML" button:

JrTiQat.jpg

The file will ve saved on this path: \Saved Games\DCS\InputLayoutsTxt\

You can open the file on your browser and print as is, or you can select the commands and copy them onto Excel or Word to format them to your liking.

Here is a HTML file generated out of the F/A-18C Sim screen "Options/Controls".

As you will see, there are many commands that do not have keyboard commands pre-assigned. There are just too many. Many of those you will execute by clicking the switch in the cockpit, others you will bind to your HOTAS.

Thank you for the replies. These were a bit deeper than I needed. Being a "Newbie" all I really need to start with is "Pause", "Start with engines running" etc.

I have saved the file for future reference; as long as the basic commands are common to all aircraft I will be able to pick up the basics quickly

It will be a long time before I need to know how to fire a missile.

You are aware, that other than the Su-25 the F/A-18C has a fully clickable cockpit. I recommend to forget about the Keyboard commands, use the Startup Tutorials etc. and memorize the cockpit layout (search for Chuck's guides or F-18C startup tutorial on YouTube). If you need a specific keyboard command, simply press esc in game and open the controls edit page now you may search for the term from the pop-up of the specific button in the cockpit and bind it to your joystick, etc.

When you buy the FA 18 it comes w/ maybe 6 QUICK ACTION and 15-18 missions all ready to go. Most of them start w/ the plane already running so you just move the throttle and take off. Many of the others are air start so, again, it's already running. I am about a year into flying the plane and have yet to bother to learn how to start it up. BTW, there are two pauses. The "P" key is active pause where your plane stops moving but all the cockpit controls etc still work and any other planes keep flying. The "Pause" key gives you a full stop of everything. Then if you buy the Persian Gulf map you get another batch of missions. I believe there are a few more than the ones that come automatically w/ the free Caucasus map so now you have 30+ missions to fly and learn from. BTW #2. Get your left hand trained to hold the left shift key down and hit the R key. This restarts your mission from the beginning. I use it constantly when I am far enough off in whatever way that it is just better to start over. Or when I get shot down.

Thank you for your reply. The pause tip is worth knowing. There is so much to learn; it is quite daunting. Not sure when I will start to fly missions, I am still trying to learn how to fly a pattern and land.

I find it strange that the rotatable controls on the X-52 Pro joystick (which I use for trim etc in X-Plane and FSX) do not work in the FA-18.

Does anyone know how to make them function? They are very useful.

Thank you,

online you need buttons. because immmediately reaction,,ano NO active pause possible.  so click cockpit  is not a help.

another thing are this bugs:  i tryed 3x (!) dcs, in free period. that many days where all plne modules are free open.

allways the training missions of all planes were stoped, ..stoped to continue. so i never ended even ONE (!) learning lesson. . , ( you have to continue after space hit, this was failure and game doesnt responce anymore)  result for me is.. not worth of buyig,,or max for 5€ / modul.

in this basic training  lessons are key bindings,,and you need them to be quick.

You really need to work on your grammar .. it is hard to understand what was your point on this paragraph.

This bug happens when you have the [space bar] binded to an aircraft command .. typically the Gun trigger. The solution is to unbind and leave the space bar free for use of the training missions. Same with the [Backspace], those two are special keys for the Training missions.

Ok, then you seriously need to go purchase a shareware Flight Simulator .. I'm sure you can find one for that value and hopefully bug free 🙄

All I can say is I am superbly happy w/ the FA-18. I have been flying it for 2 years and still have a long way to go to be fully proficient. It is pretty difficult, there are many, many steps for some functions to work. But I find that as I learn about how to use one weapon, often the next weapon will be somewhat similar so a lot of learning weapon 1 transfers to weapon 2. I recently flew a night mission. At first it was a shock looking at the cockpit. But, as I started to prepare different systems just as I always do, there were a couple toggle switches a little hard to confirm their position but, otherwise it all came naturally. Over that time I have avoided some missions because I didn't know that weapon. But at some point I just realize I can fly the same stuff over and over, or I can invest the time, learn a new weapon or procedure, and move onward.

I'm pretty new to this as well.

Just jumped into this plane. Looks good to me. The only trouble with clickable cockpits is that sometimes you have to take your eyes off what you're concentrating on, especially if the switch is near the floor or behind you somewhere. I found this with the Blackshark.

One thing I've learned with DCS is that you need patience. I found It can take weeks before your flights stop ending upside down on the ground. But you eventually get the hang of it and it's ultimately a rewarding experience.

I didn't know about the backspace key in the training missions. What does it do?

Dbarak,

Have you considered that this is a global community where in many cases English is not a member’s first language?  This really isn’t the place for criticism, especially when someone is making an effort to communicate as best they can.

English is ICAO’s official language but after 35 years as a pilot and air traffic controller with experience in several countries, I’ve never heard anyone waste time on grammatical perfection when simple comprehension is the goal.  Save it for the classroom.
