[NOT A BUG] Can't Install the JF-17 using Module Manager on Dec. 24th Rel. Branch

Hi,

I'm getting an error from the Auto-updater that is preventing the download of the JF-17 by the Module Manager in the release version of DCS.

This is after the update of the Release version today (12-24).

I've attached the updater log that reflects the error.

The error is "ERROR: Unknown module DEKA_JF-17".

Anyone help?

Thanks.

Edit: I tried again, now my log is longer, seems like it's the same as your's.

I also used the commands to force the update because the updater wouldn't auto update.

Seems to me that your DCS was moved from its original position and now the updater can't distinguish if it is open beta or release .. judging from this line, that on my log looks like this:

00000.026 INFO : branch: openbeta

I would try to run the Updater from the command line, with these parameters:

dcs_updater update @release

i noticed same issue, although reading the patch notes it doesnt explicitly say moving jf-17 to stable, just a couple jf-17 related things. module manager is being a bit misleading perhaps

No, it did say JF-17 was introduced. That was the first line. Now they deleted that line after this report.

I was reacting to the Module Manager in the Release version asking me if I wanted to download and install the JF-17, then telling me that the module was "Invalid".

If the JF-17 is not yet ready for the "Stable/Release" version, fine, then please tweak the Module Manager in the Release version accordingly.

As of right now, it appears the JF-17 was pulled from the release branch update.

My game just crashes to desktop when I try to install the Jeff. Yes OB build, cleaned and no mods on. Ran a repair no luck. Just bought the thing and I want to fly it! :(

Update, the fix for me was to launch DCS without using Skate's updater tool so there must be a hose up in the pathway or something.

You are running the Release Branch Updater.

how is it possible to run open beta game with release updater?

00000.028 INFO : DCS/2.5.5.41371

and more importantly, how do i fix this?

edit:

i tried the usual, "update @openbeta" but that does nothing, as the game is already open beta build (41371). repair doesnt help either.

ah, now i see what might be the issue.

i just noticed the current stable happens to be the same as open beta at the moment, so the updater doesnt do anything when forcing into open beta.

so do i need to wait until new open beta is released, so the versions are different, and the updater actually updates something? am i stuck until 2020?

i dont think you understand me - neither "update @openbeta" neither the skatezilla's utility's update to open beta function do anything.

i always get "dcs updater 2.9.12.8: the installed version 2.5.5.41371 is up to date". because stable and openbeta have the same build number currently, so there is nothing to update to.

im stuck.

i found a solution:

1) open autoupdate.cfg and add

"branch": "openbeta",

2) create dcs_variant.txt and insert

openbeta

3) profit

this is how you can force the game to become openbeta in a situation when you install release and release happens to be the same build number as open beta. the updater REFUSES to do this, even when instructed with "update @openbeta"
