MrReynolds Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 (edited) FIXED: ** My install is NOT looking at c:users\saved games for the DCS saves, it's directed to a previous backup on a different folder ** Hi all. Yesterday I had a couple of crashes for the first time in ages. Then in the evening I was asked to log in to the account on load up, and from then on DCS won't load. I've cleaned the install. Completed 2 repairs. Deleted the save folder. Reinstalled on a totally different SSD Reparied THAT install! Delted the graphics config I've tried running at a different resolution. Left the box open to let it install any shaders that may be needed............... I've deleted my graphics card and re-installed drivers. Still a blank, 1/4 sized box in the centre of the screen with my FPS of 3000+ in the bottom left (Afterburner - NOT overclocked). I don't think I've missed anything unless there are other hidden folders I need to completely deleted in the registry or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm now left to play................games!!!! Thanks. ** Extra info: When I open the program it says logging in, the getting authorisation info. Then I get the black screen with nothing excpet my FPS counter in the bottom left. Now. With a totally fresh install, where did it get my log in info from? are there more folders I need to manually delete to completely reinstall? Edited January 4, 2020 by MrReynolds

MrReynolds Posted January 4, 2020 Author Posted January 4, 2020 Thanks BIGNEWY, but there are none at present. 1) I deleted the DCS saved folder in users. 2) I've now put it back, but nothings being written. I guess because there isn't any crashing as there isn't any program... crashing. It's just sitting there. I've tried the recycle bin but there are no logs! The thing is that everything WAS fine. If it was a new install for the first ever time I could understand. Is there a way of forcing a log (ooh-er)! I right click and close the DCS program on the task bar to close it down as it just sits there. I'm going to make a support ticket with a link to this thread. Thanks for your help on a saturday :-) (or indeed any day)!
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted January 4, 2020 ED Team Posted January 4, 2020 (edited) Hi No problem, happy to try and help. what antivirus are you using? could it be creating a problem? Is windows up to date and what version of windows are you using? Check your GPU driver is up to date. These are my best guesses at the moment. MrReynolds Posted January 4, 2020 Author Posted January 4, 2020 Well Well Well. Mr "I've buggered so many things up in the past I know to keep backups" comes through again. This isn't a crash log for the current issue as it isn't making any. I can't copy the log text as it's too long for the forum. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ZzTRpDx2YSBXFdpwEoRX47yQE51UJGAm I've turned off antivirus = no fix Already updated the already up to date drivers. Windows 10 and it should be up to date. It's intriguing me as I want to fix it for fixing sake!!! :D

MrReynolds Posted January 4, 2020 Author Posted January 4, 2020 Yep. Was up to date. Uninstalled via device manager and reinstalled. Deleted Beta again, and now installed vanilla. Upon installation I get a box for username and password which I didn't for Beta. ......................and it's loaded up............................ What does THAT suggest??? Stable fine, Beta sits there doing nothing! There's got to be a corrupted "something" - "somewhere" in the Beta folders somewhere in my system. Even though I installed it on to a different SSD.
MrReynolds Posted January 4, 2020 Author Posted January 4, 2020 Hi The crash looks like a GPU driver crash xxx is your gpu driver up to date? BUT - and I'm sure you're right about the graphics driver, it was from a crash in mission after the game had loaded up, not upon boot up which is the problem here.
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted January 4, 2020 ED Team Posted January 4, 2020 Your login details are stored in your saved games location, if you installed stable it would have been a first time login. Ensure windows and any drivers are up to date. make sure any unofficial mods are removed ( if any ) run a cleanup and repair, or if steam verify your install Rename your dcs.openbeta folder in saved games ( keep it as a backup ) beta C:\Users\yourname\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta example C:\Users\yourname\Saved Games\DCS.openbetabackup restart DCS allow it to create a new one, redo your settings and test You can move your input folder back after to save time from the renamed one. Please contact support directly if this does not work with your dcs log https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/ thanks Forum rules - DCS Crashing? MrReynolds Posted January 4, 2020 Author Posted January 4, 2020 (edited) Right. Got a new theory and it's bizarre!!! I have backups on an old HDD. F:\My Documents\my old documents move to new c\Saved Games\DCS This saved games folder has the chess pieces icon like Windows likes. It DOES have modified DCS folders in it fromwhat I've loaded just now. I have a feeling the game is looking for that folder, instead of my c:users folder which has had the DCS folders renamed...... Now I've got Stable running, I'm re-downloading Beta to see if it now works having renamed THESE folders! Unfortunatley I've just used SkateZilla's GUI utilility to change stable to Beta, but since they're the same number at the moment I don't know which is which lol............................. TL : DR - I think the game was NOT looking at the c:/users folder but another one! EDIT: Just renamed the DCS folder in that backup folder and graphics settings etc we reset, so I'm thinking that's it! Only 14 gigs of download left to check beta! ED Team BIGNEWY Posted January 4, 2020 ED Team Posted January 4, 2020 Well hopefully you have found the problem. I don't know why Windows is looking at that folder on the backup HDD but it's a good lesson for anyone else with these problems in the future. Anyway, it seems to be fixed now.
