Will this map feature textures for all four seasons or will it be like Normandy where Winter isn't coming?

We continue to expand this map with additional airfields, including the famous Biggin Hill RAF and Eastchurch airfields in England, two new advanced landing group airstrips, and numerous new landmarks. We plan to release the final version of the Channel map in the 1st quarter of 2021.

Hmmm, the new info about final stage but no any word about different type of textures for Autumn and Winter.

So any news about seasons? 🙂

I get the feeling ED is moving away from adding seasons to maps to minimize workload on products. Normandy has been out for how many years and still doesn't have seasons? The majority of recent maps have been desert regions where there really isn't much seasonal variation....it just seems like another visible decline in product quality along with all the other notable EA issues with the recent module releases.

The upcoming Marianas map also has no seasonal variation.

I don't invest any interest when ED says something is planned. The planned features that have been touted in recent "20xx and beyond" trailers have been "planned" since at least 2015, with hardly any updates aside from teaser screenshots and videos. None of which exist for this mysterious FLIR modeling upgrade they say they've been working on for n years, either.

Normandy has it - autumn, summer, spring (like summer but a separate set of textures) and winter (like autumn, separate set too), without any part of snow (what is pity) but it must be said though that there are seasons and some differences though. On Channel map what we have its summer always.

I hope it will appear for the Channel also before the release:

for Syria or the Persian Gulf it is not as important as it is for Europe's maps. TY.

It is a bit misguided to consider that winter = snow. In Normandy and due to the gulfstream, the winter is not that cold (usually over freezing, Brittany and Normandy are usually a lot warmer in winter than the east of France, although on the same latitude). You see a lot of precipitation during autumn and winter, but rarely snow, and it certainly won't stay there for months. So having a fully white map, although beautiful, would not really fit the weather of that region. This is not Scandinavia.

And I do agree that a similar variation should be there for the Channel map as well, at least different colors for the foliage and fields. Even if they don't add snow, at least more brown terrain in the winter, green in the spring and yellow for the fields in summer would make for a nice immersion, and nice red/orange/yellow trees for autumn. But if IRL there is very rarely snow in winter, I don't see why the map should be all white in winter.

Of course, not always, especially recently where we have warm winters but see this:

and we talk about winter 1944/45, not Today's time and YES, in this tme was a lot of snow in Europe, it can be checked historically, here is the example from December (Ardennes'44 so near DCS map) :

Weather report' 44 : https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a121480.pdf

"Adjustment to winter combat took some time. Our tanks and vehicles really stood out in the snow. Once while I was forward looking for new gun positions, I saw four of our tanks hit and burned about 500 yards away as fast as you could snap your fingers. They were sitting ducks for the camouflaged 88mm antitank guns. Eventually our tanks were painted white and white sheets were used to cover men on forward patrols. Steel nuts were welded to tank treads for traction on ice and snow."

I live 100km away from Normandy, I think I know that snow is possible 😉 (even had some on Saturday). I just mean that it is not the norm, in today's world. If you have 2 days of snow over 3 months, then representing a white winter for that area is not realistic, even though yes, snow does happen. Actually in Normandy right now you can have some years without any snow actually falling in enough quantity to blanket the landscape.

You do have a good point that the weather in 1944 was quite different. However this might not be a focus since in Winter 1944 the fighting was already in the east of France, not in Normandie. But yeah, in a hypothetical scenario... apparently 1944 was a very cold year and had quite a lot of precipitation as far as I could find. https://www.meteo-paris.com/chronique/annee/1944

The same goes for the Battle of Britain (for the Channel map), it was fought in the summer of 1940.
