No. The half-life of plutonium (Pu-238 ) is approximately 88 years (source). Regardless on how we interpret your nonsensical term "52 Trillion zeros in years" (either 52 trillion years, or 52*10^100000000000), 88 is less. If you start out with 1 kg of Pu-238 you will have 500g after 88 years. And 250g after 176 years. After 875 years, there will be 1g left.

 

 

Sorry to say so, but youtube university and a 100% reality-free diet will not get you the Nobel Prize in Physics.

Plutonium continues to produce 4000+ degrees C up to 52 Trillion zeros in years, so it is very handy for this purpose. Even 88 years is still very good for a source of heat of that temperature but again it last much, much, much longer than 88 years. Your maths is so wrong lol, plutonium is very, very hot and radioactive!

Did you not even read what drPhibes wrote?

Nowhere in his post does he say Plutonium becomes inert after 88 years. Nothing close as a matter of fact.

 

Also, where are you getting the figure of Plutonium outputting 4000 degrees C in heat? It melts at ~640 degrees C.

Pretty certain that's not how a half-life works. There's nothing "inert" in 88 years, it's still very much radioactive.

 

It works on a decay process but the end result is that 52 trillion years is how long Plutonium takes to make completely decontaminated of radiation. So as a heat source it is good so long as radiation is bottled up.

First, specify wich Isotope you refer to, they differ greatly in half life.

 

some of Pu's Isotopes HL:

Pu-239 has 24.110 years HL

Pu-244 has 80 million years HL

Pu-238 has 87,74 years HL

 

Only Pu-238 would qualify for your purpose, with a HL of 87,74 years, a man's life span.

Pu 239 is what I am referring too but remember the half life equates to half as much and follows a decay curve. It still takes 52 trillion zeros in years to reach a point where it is no longer radioactive. 239 takes much longer than what you stated, it must be someone's theory lol.

Subs I think we all have a grasp on nuclear heated steam propulsion. But after several half lifes you will have such a small amount of radioactivity you might only be able to heat an ant. It has to atleast make enough heat to make the one way trip to earth right?

4000 degrees C plus water = immense power

This kind of propulsion will allow HumanKind to achieve full exploration of the solar system and much more. You could use it for an aerospace craft airliner which operates at hypersonic speed.
