Has anyone been experiencing tacan needle on HSI showing wrong location of beacon.

Here is a picture sorry for crap quality but for some reason DCS saves screenshot as PNG.

Yes, this is normal, it is the magnetic deviation from the ship's large metal structure, which we modeled. If you fly away from the carrier again, you will see that the deviation will decrease again. On and around the ship the deviation for the AHRS can be up to 30°.

I notice this when forming up with the Viking and that thing is tinny compared to the Stennis. Does this deviation occur in TACAN yardstick with a buddy?

What you will notice there is more the general magnetic variation (6 in most places you fly) than the magnetic deviation caused by a metallic structure. While the Stennis is a significant mass, the viking or your wingman would be rather unsignificant masses, maybe they add a tad, but in general it is the MAGVAR that is deviating the full 6° or how many it is depending on the map, noticeable only when fully deflected close to the target and rather not noticeable further out.

A/A TACAN would be immune. It is only a DME exchange. One aircraft sends out a poll and the other aircraft responds. The time measurement determines the DME. A magnetic field would not have an effect. In fact, the effect you’re seeing is not on the TACAN at all, it is on the AHRS which is positioning the compass card on the BDHI. It’s the AHRS that’s off, not the TACAN.

Ah... Yeah your right. Yardstick shows only distance. Forgot about that.

Thanks, Spice, forgot to mention that and might have been unclear, misleading.
