352nd_Oscar Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Q1:One of 'the' biggest problems with LOFC was/is the "intergration" of various community mods into the game - specifically when certain xml files in the Config and ME areas required updating to support the mods - which lead to compatibility issues. Especially in the use of CLSID keys. I know Skypat has had to deal with this with Modman. Is this being addressed in DCS:Black Shark? Q2: Another issue for mission builders is the mission file format. As they are now, they appear to be XML output with "encryted" traces at the begining of the files. They are very had to read, interpret, etc., and make campaign building using carry-over missions a real problem - especially if external mission building tools are anticipated. Will the mission files be the same format as they are in LOFC or will they be pure ASCII format and/or will options be provided to accomplish the translations?
Shaman Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 It's a very good question. Don't let this thread die. 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
352nd_Oscar Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Two more: Q3: Will the mission briefings and debriefings be importable/exportable the mission builder or printable from within the mission/campaign areas? Q4: Will video captures (tracks, movies, etc) be in industry standard formats - *.wmv and/or mp*? (Thanks for the rep!)

joey45 Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Q5 - what are we allowed/can mod in the game if its too maney then what cant be modded Q6 - are you realesing templates to skin. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. EvilBivol-1 Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 At this point all I can add to what was already linked by TekaTeka above is that the Meinit.xml is no longer being used as the emphasis is on LUA files. I know that's not much, but we'll be discussing more details later. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
Shaman Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Me.ini is no longer being used as the emphasis is on LUA files. Me.ini? You mean ED got rid of the idea of having that single MEINIT.XML file? If so, then good! 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
FVMAD Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Me.ini? You mean ED got rid of the idea of having that single MEINIT.XML file? If so, then good! Yes, like Chizh said, now everything is on LUA scripts.
Dmut Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Hopefully this .zip'ed Lua code is the result of ED's military contractors (for A-10C sim) needing to change mission parameters/units on-the-fly within the game. nope... "There are five dangerous faults which may affect a general: recklessness, which leads to destruction; cowardice, which leads to capture; a hasty temper, which can be provoked by insults; a delicacy of honor which is sensitive to shame; over-solicitude for his men, which exposes him to worry and trouble." ED Team JimMack Posted October 20, 2007 ED Team Posted October 20, 2007 Hopefully this .zip'ed Lua code is the result of ED's military contractors (for A-10C sim) needing to change mission parameters/units on-the-fly within the game. If so, this could lead to a dynamic campaign running completely independent of the game itself. It could use the bubble concept that Falcon uses. It would make it possible for the campaign to run on a second computer linked to the one running the Black Shark game. This would help tremendously with frame rates as thousands of units could exist in the campaign, yet only a few units would need to exist within the 3D environment (dependent upon the player helo's position in the 3D world). Agree that changing mission parameters on the fly (during a mission) is a desirable feature. However the bubble concept is a no-go. The strength of the old Flanker/LockOn and the new DCS TFCSE (The Fighter Collection Simulation Engine) has always been that every object is tracked and recorded, down to individual cannon shells, and the results can be reviewed. This means in a complex mission, one can evaluate what is happening in a mission, even if it is not within the players/pilot "bubble". This is a very important feature, both for serious game sims as will as military simulations, when evaluating tactics and results in a complex mission. Accurate AAR (After Action Review) is an essential part of training and performance evaluation, both of pilots and commanders. I worked with Gilman Louie on the original Falcon (pre 1986), as the company I was running (Mirrorsoft) bought his company (Nexa, which was merged with Spectrum Holobyte to form the company Sphere). It was first published on the Mac, the PC (CGA graphics and then SVGA), Amiga, ST, and the bubble decision had to be taken right from the beginning, though we would have preferred otherwise, as we did not have CPUs or RAM that could cope with a non-bubble implementation.
