2.5.6 will not load with sound mods

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have used 2 specific mods.

1. I changed the language in the common.lua file to communicate with ATC and AWACS in English on RUS and CHN aircraft. - I was able to resolve this because only the common.lua file was moved to another folder.

2. I set avionics language to English, but to prevent Betty from speaking on Russian FC3 aircraft, I replaced it with Rita's audio files in the root\Sounds\Speech\Sound\ENG\Common\Betty\Messages\ folder.

There is no way I can solve this at the moment. Is there a solution?

Does anyone still try to update with mods still installed? Amazing!

You can if you are putting them in saved games folder, this is the beauty of trying to use this as opposed to the actual DCS game directory.

OVGME is a great tool for those files that can't be loaded from saved games folder.

Seems like moving them to Saved Games did the trick for me; at least any that went directly into the Sounds folder, everything else that goes into aircraft-specific folders works like before.

Could you please, give more details ??

Any sound mod that placed modified files in CoreMods or Mods should still work as before. Only mods that used the Sounds folder in the root DCS need to be moved to your root Save Games folder instead.

So far this is working. I've not yet tested to see if I can get VAICOM working again. I was thinking of copying the moved lua files to the old path, letting it append/modify those and then putting them back. No clue yet if that would work or not. I'll test it soon.

Hi, And how do you do that?

Create a \Soundsfolder\subfolder in your C:\Username\Saved Games\DCS\

And put the modified files into it?

Try placing sound mods in saved games folder. But yeah, ED decided to protect all of their sound files so modding the install/Sounds folder is now out of the question.

Do you know what the file structure needs to look like in Saved Games for Sound mods? Guess I need to move my sound mod over to there so that it works for everyone again.

The bigger problem will probably be new mods. We know the structure of the old sounds and can put an altered version in the savedgames folder, but wen don't know the structure of newly added sounds so we can't modify them.

I'm not into sound modding, so no idea if my concerns are valid but wanted to throw it into the discussion.

If you have a back up copy of your DCS install you can copy the different structures.

Hi, thanks, I do have a backup copy...

Then I have to do this:

Create a \Sound\subfolder in my C:\Username\Saved Games\DCS\

like so: C:\Username\Saved Games\DCS\Sound\subfolderxx

And put the backup files into it?

Ive said more or less the same thing my self in another thread , was told that modding ED files has never been acceptable and that why the files are now locked........even though the files have been open for YEARS and there have been HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of user mods which apparently ED hadn't noticed were made even though they needed approval before they could be listed on this site

Stupid question:

Does this work also for other stuff than sounds?

e.g:

C:\Username\Saved Games\DCS\Mods\Aircrafts\Cockpit?

C:\Username\Saved Games\DCS\Mods\Aircrafts\Cockpit?

If you are talking specifically about cockpit mods, they will need to go in: <Saved Games>\DCS.openbeta\Liveries\Cockpit_[AirframeName]

For example, <Saved Games>\DCS\Liveries\Cockpit_Ka-50\Ricardo HD

Now the problem is to track and follow the sound mods that are split into saved games folder.

JSGME tracked it into the main DCS folder with names you gave them,

but nothing is tracking them into Saved Games folder and all the files from different mods are mixed up there...
