BBQ
I haven't upgraded my computer in a loooong time. What kind of performance boost will I be looking at, say, going from the following system: AMD Athlon 3000+ 1 gb RAM Radeon 9800 Pro to a... Intel Core 2 duo E6750 @ 2.66 2 gb RAM Nvidia 8800 GTS (320 MB) Are we talking double the performance? I can't find any articles to compare the two--as it seems the Athlon 3000 is so old? Thanks for any replies!
ED Team Groove Posted October 27, 2007 ED Team Share Posted October 27, 2007 It will be more than double. Its hard to measure because it depends on what applications are running but i would go for factor 3x or more. TheMoose
It's time for AMD to bring out there quad, to compete. Does Intel has the market at present? I love AMD dont get me wrong, competions is always good.. I remember 3 years ago, when all was screaming AMD is the best. Myself still hanging with Intel with my old prescott. I new Intel had something under their sleeve, lol. Now it's out. Will AMD make it? To break this Intel market? Let the better CPU win, no matter who is better, the competions is what the market requires. They ARE both good. In the End, Intel or AMD, Well if either bring you pleasures, then it has no matter. True question of budget. But not sure how much will sell there quad. But Intel has squashed lots of the market with the Q6600... Your impressions, not being a AMD vs Intel, but compare the benefits and flaws... etc...Remember, it's not about the buyer, both CPU proved there worth. Cheers. My first choice Intel. AMD was always known to be a conservative choice for pricing. I reckon this is no longuer applicable. Gents this is only my opinion, like I sayd, competions is good, and let them battle it out. For me Intel vs AMD has no real meaning. I bought Intel since it had the benchmark marker with a good price. AMD was and still laging behind... TheMoose
I am the first to admit not to believe the charts of toms hardware, investigate around. Check forums, etc. Myself. My quad 4 Q6600. I'm Happy. I maxing out all my games without having to spend the 1000$ for and only dawm CPU lol. But I admit, 2 Gigs or Ram, especially with vista, ain't enough. I recommend 4 Gigs Antec 900 gaming tower, PSU: Corsair 750W, Q6600, Asus P5K, 8Gig Mushkin, Nvidia eVGA 280 GTX Superclocked 1G DDR3, SSDNOW200 Kingston Drive, TrackIr 3000+Vector, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick, Saitek rudder pedals pro, Sharp 42" inch LCD Aquo. TheMoose
Go with your budget, no matters if AMD or INTEL. But buying a PC is not limited only to a CPU. Motherboard, chipset, Ram speed, etc, anyhow, good luck ;) Antec 900 gaming tower, PSU: Corsair 750W, Q6600, Asus P5K, 8Gig Mushkin, Nvidia eVGA 280 GTX Superclocked 1G DDR3, SSDNOW200 Kingston Drive, TrackIr 3000+Vector, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick, Saitek rudder pedals pro, Sharp 42" inch LCD Aquo. Thanks for any replies! I just updated from a 939 AMD 4800+ processor to the same one you want, and I really love it. Nice and fast, and it runs well. It kicks out alittle bit of heat, but thats ok... that and the 8800GTX keep my room nice and warm for the winter.
plug pray
I know a better solution: instead of spending $1,5k on a pc, you take the money and go to a music shop, buy there a fender precision, and start doing something greater than gaming). just kidding. Anyway, i hardly understand the reason for the CORE 2 QUAD EXTREME thing..
