Mirrors Look Fake

When I look in a real mirror, I can focus on the distance between my eyes and the mirror, and what I'm looking at. I can tell if something is either far away, or just small, and vice versa.

In DCS, mirrors look like a flat projection on a screen. My eyes focus on the mirror, not through it at the subject behind me, like in a real one. It's hard to explain without showing it. But when I look at it, it's like the mirror is a flat screen that shows what's behind me, my pilot's face, etc.

It makes it look off, and not like a mirror surface.

I have noticed the same.

Ex. in the F-14 if you approach the head to the mirror it's obvious that something is a bit wrong with the 3d projection. In some modules, ex. the Mig-21 there is no stereo vision at all, the mirror just looks like an LCD screen.

It is little difficult to do when the mirrors are PIP (Picture In Picture). They are literally like a mini screens inside the frame of the mirror frames. And so on they exist on the surface of the mirror.

That works so that there are virtual cameras for each mirror that are positioned to front of the mirror and turns based your own head position.

To make them as "real mirrors", would be challenging.

The mirrors has been always problematic in the DCS. Like now for me the F/A-18C mirrors are 180 degree to wrong direction. That when I fly toward ground on sea, I see the ground in the mirrors. WHen I fly toward ocean, I see the ocean.

In Su-25A I have huge block front of the mirror etc.
